Hard to say against such poor opposition, but Aquaman looked like he was having a good game?

Meh, I really can't get enthused about pre-season games.  Difficult to tell who is performing or not as they touch the ball so little in the half they play that the sample size isn't significant.  Also didn't help that they were playing on a ploughed field.

Aquilani did look sharp though, and Ngog even looked decent at times.  Defence all over the shop, but expected when it's chopped and changed so much during the match.

A tweet from john henry

One missing link last year: Acquilani. Put the ball near Ngog and the goal and it's going in. Too much talk of them somewhere else.

Yeah, a nice tweet from the owner. Although he mustn't have seen the fluffed chance that Ngog put wide after doing all the hard work.

If Insua shows he can defend he'd be a good little squad player.

Hes not the only one who rates Aquilani. Read Kennys book if you get the chance.

Was just an example of a starting XI that is all British (except for Pepe).

On the bench could be:

Shelvey
Robinson
Spearing
Connor
and some others from the academy.

Just thought it was interesting the number of British players in the squad at the moment.

Read an article earlier about Charlie Adam, and how good he is defensively as well as with his distribution and set-pieces.   I didn't realise he considers his best position to be centre-half!  The article (I'll try and find it again) was comparing to Pirlo, and saying that Liverpool have another Alonso now.

FYP, the article must be a massive joke.

Sorry, not saying he's on a par with them, but saying he could be utilised in a similar role.

I'm not sure at all about him to be honest, but for less than £7M I think he was a bargain.

Looking at the current Liverpool squad, I think it's safe to say that we have slightly more depth than previous years:

    1. Jones
    2. Johnson
    4. Meireles
    5. Agger
    6. Aurelio
    7. Suarez
    8. Gerrard
    9. Carroll
    10. J Cole
    11. Maxi
    12. Pacheco
    14. Henderson
    16. Kyrgiakos
    18. Kuyt
    19. Downing
    20. Spearing
    21. Lucas
    22. D Wilson
    23. Carragher
    24. Ngog
    25. Reina
    26. Adam
    28. Poulsen
    30. Suso
    31. Sterling
    32. Darby
    33. Shelvey
    34. Kelly
    35. Coady
    37. Skrtel
    38. Flanagan
    39. Eccleston
    40. Ayala
    41. Hansen
    42. Gulacsi
    44. Mendy
    45. Ince
    46. Amoo
    47. Wisdom
    49. Robinson
    - Aquilani
    - Degen
    - Doni
    - El Zhar
    - Insua
    - Jovanovic
    - Kohlert
    - Mavinga
    - Roberts
    - Sokolik

Wonder how many of those will be on their way out (Jovanovic, Cole, Aquilani, Ngog, Insua, Mereiles, El Zhar, Degen, Poulsen, etc.) before the start of the season, and how many will stay and fight for a place?
