I think it was posted more because the families of the '96 disaster openly gave their thanks to Rafa Benitez personally, which you may view at your leisure in the video posted.

All joking aside, there's no need to repeatedly troll the thread because you dislike the man. That's fine, and all, but I don't know why you feel the need to constantly stir the pot with the fact. As a Liverpool fan, there were high and low points under him as a manager. Yet not for one second would I take away from him his generous spirit and emotional attachment to the club.

I'm happy for you to say whatever you wish provided it makes for constructive discussion. There's no need to keep doing this, though. Honestly.

Yeah, fair enough mate. I mainly took that line with Rafa because of the rubs dished out to Roy Hodgson. I don't think the guy was given a fair chance and people were pretty spiteful to him calling him naive and a fool. I have said a couple of times in this thread that I think Rafa is a master tactician and a very successful manager in the history of Liverpool. The reason I pushed it is because of the potential entertainment I could have with Baron et al losing the plot over anybody saying a word against Benitez...as we see above. Baron's words creased me up. What a ridiculous over-reaction. And I thought using hillsborough as a stick to beat me with was much more disrespectful than anything I did. I haven't said anything disrespectful about the disaster because I had friends there on the day and know exactly what it was like. I will try not to rub Rafa again but if he appears on football focus for the 3rd time I will be forced to. So sorry Kin.

Cheesy

Can't see another contender in the side (maybe Lucas) for the player of the season at Liverpool.  A much deserved new contract.  Yet still lots of Liverpool fans want rid of him, at least out of the starting XI.

You mean Kuyt here i assume not Lucas ?

I think both deffo deserved new contracts and will be very important parts of the squad next season, though the wat Jay Spearing is playing these days he could be ousting Lucas soon.

Kuyt is more than an important part of the squad - he's a key first XI player.  He has only been out for a short-time due to injuries and this is also a key element to his importance, his reliability.  In addition to his reliability (he sounds like Honda ffs) is his 100% commitment and effort, his versatility and team focus.  You never hear him whinge about playing out of position, and if we didn't have Flanagan for right-back I'm sure Kuyt would quite willingly step in there for the team (and do a decent job).

He's also our top scorer this season, and a more consistent penalty-taker than Gerrard - I expect Kuyt to score from the spot, whereas I'm always relieved when Gerrard does.  I'll have to check the stats to see if that feeling is backed up by the facts.

In other news, since Dalglish took over Liverpool have scored more points in the league than any other team other than manu.  That's not bad going for a squad considered by many commentators as 'lacking in quality', and one that is also riddled with injuries.

Kin, I think until Gerrard missed a pen recently against (Blackburn IIRC), he had only missed one other pen and on that he managed to get the rebounder I think it was against Marseille. I  expect every pen to be missed I dont care who's taking it I get very nervous about pens...

I think I've seen Gerrard's record somewhere and it something like 21/27.

Gerrard has missed more than that.  He was something like scored 10 missed 5 a few years ago.

http://www.lfchistory.net/Stats/PlayerPenaltiesAll.aspx

Yes, he's missed a few - 7, if I can count properly from that list (obviously scored a fair few too).  But Kuyt has taken 7 and scored all of them.  I'm more confident with Kuyt taking them than Gerrard anyway.

When he's fit Gerrard shouldn't really be taking corners either, and a lot of free-kicks. There are others better suited to those roles, and if Gerrard isn't taking corners he can be used to head the ball (he has a decent header on him) or to loiter on the edge of the area as Scholes used to do to great effect for manu.

It has tilted me so often that we seemed to always have to roll the ball to Stevie on a free just outside the box so he could blast it, but usually  a man has already charged in and is about 3 yards away when he hits, he never fancied just curling it in without a set up.

Suarez looks decent from frees so he will get to take a few, Aurelio if he was ever fit can whip in a good cross too.

Of course Kuyt has a good record at the penalties he's almost a German*

Gerrard is English and thus ill-equipped for the task. See also, Waddle, C; Southgate, G; Beckham, D, and of course, Terry, J.

Liverpool recognised this and Hamman was onviously the first on the list in Istanbul 2005...

*Kuyt was born in Katwijk aan Zee - The name "Katwijk" probably has its origins in the name of a Germanic tribe called the Chatten (Chatti). The Dutch word "wijk" means "area", so the name probably meant something like "the Chatti area".
