Drive faster mate lol.
Just drove back from Oxford, coming off the Motorway with just 3 miles petrol left in the tank lol.
Anyway. Rodney has stepped up to the plate. And delivered. Today he faced forward! Waheyyyyy. As soon as he did this the words that came out of my mouth were something along the lines of "Thanks fuck for that, I dont care what happens now!"
He was slowly into stride but got it going into the first. He went down the far side but checked slightly where the pick up is on the second time round, through not knowing I guess. Lost him a length or two really. Came off the last and was looking tired. Turny, stopwatch in hand let out a YES!
Then the time come over the tannoy, 27.77.
Weeeeeeeee. He has done grading time on first look, amazing. Not only that but the track will probably be 10 slow too and the wind was into the dogs faces down the back straight. As I said he didnt get away too well either. No real work on him is why he tired late on, and again, more improvement possible there!
Some open racers going round in 27.20 today in preperation for the Pall Mall comp at Oxford next week. Pretty exciting really. Great run!
I sprinted round the other side of the track to give the idiot a pat on the back and to see him all happy!
Brilliant morning.
all he done was use his stopwatch ffs you should have heaped the praise on rodders wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Wd that doggy

very good news
so the plan for rodney is now? presumably train him fitter and unleash him in a low grade for a coup?
He needs to have two more trials with 3 dogs before he can race. But we are looking at 3 weeks and he could be on the card. Touchwood no setbacks. Oh, £300 entry fee for the Derby. Thoughts??? Staking thread?

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The monster has been unleashed!
2 mins before the trial i said to rooks that its the most nervous i have ever been at any of the trials we have attended. we stood there in silence holding our breath as mick wedged rodneys huge frame into the traps and the hare was sent on its way. both our eyes were transfixed on the front of the 4 box both praying not to see rodneys tail through the traps. Then they opened and although not especially quick out of them he was facing the right way. We both had a huge sigh of relief! He then realised what he was there for and fairly flew past us up the initial straight his long stride and low to the ground style looking good. He cut in at the first bend and kicked some sand up with his back legs as he struggled to keep his footing as he was really shifting. Half way up the back straight he slowed slightly, easing off as if he thought that the hare was stopping but he then realised it wasnt and set off in hot pursuit of it again. He ran a good last two bends and as he came past us up the run in you could see he was tiring slightly though his stride didnt seem to change much.
27.77 is 33 spots inside grading which is over 4 lengths on a track that cannot be faster than normal in both ours and the trainers opinion. Also he run on the worst of the ground as the tractor was due to go round after his trial.2 previous novices had run earlier in the session both first look at the track and both solos, 1 posted 29.23 and the other 28.71. that puts his time into perspective.
2 open race dogs had trials earlier and recorded 27.01 and 27.21 so to be just 6 1/2 lengths behind dogs of that calibre on your first look at the track and first ever 4 bend run is amazing. in fact i can only remember 1 novice breaking 28 seconds in all the trials i have witnessed over the last 6 or 7 weeks.
we dont know his sectional time yet but id guess at maybe 4.05 which gives him a few lengths improvement there and he lost at least 2 lenghts with his far side check.
dont expect any low grade coo on this one guys, he has two more trials to do before he can run and even without any major work natural improvement and experience should see him improve to 27.40 imo so a A4 debut at best probably looks on the card.
The next hurdle next week is seeing how he runs with other dogs, how he handles bends around other dogs etc.
i cant wait for next monday its so exciting!!!!

Rodneys sectional was 3.98. Not bad considering seemingly slow away.
It was 20 slow yesterday meaning he did a 27.57!!!
Cassie not out this Thursday or Friday, hopefully Saturday. Will find out Thursday.
Rodney in 3 dog trial next Monday. GOOGOGO
