Hi,

Am flying out to Vegas at end of next week, anyone know the best place to buy a reasonably large amount of dollars?  Is it possible to negotiate with the travel agents about the rate at all?  Like trying to agree a better rate for selling the dollars back when i get back (i hope i have some left lol)?

Travelex at the airports will buy back at the same rate for a small fee i.e. a few quid. I bought about 10k in $ last time I went and they didn't bat an eyelid at that, dunno what the max is though. If you come back with more than u went with you'd have to go to your bank/travel agent with the extra if your ok with that?

I have used both www.travelex.co.uk and www.onlinefx.co.uk

Travelex you can collect at the airport
OnlineFX wiill deliver by post at a small fee.

If you are in London, try www.Change-Link.com. You can't order online but if you can get to their offices in Victoria, they are currently offering 1.965.

Martyn Lewis on his Money Saving Expert website in the www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/cheaper-spending-overseas article reckons a Nationwide debit card is the best option but also gives some info on the best way to buy foreign currency here - www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money

I think the Post Office have a good rate, they sell FOC and buy back FOC.....

Worth checking a few out.....Also a good idea as someone pointed out earlier... You may get a better rate for your £££ in USA....

i know the best place in glasgow for getting foreign currecny over the counter are those yellow Cheque Centre shops that do the payday loans for poor peoples.

today they were selling for $1.93.3 for the £, which isn't amazing but much better than any of these ripoff major banks will give you.
