Just a word for the guys up in Whiston, Rotherham, whose homes have been devestated by the extraordinary rainfall of the last 24 hours.

Globally, in the grand scheme of things, it's of no consequence. A monsoon on the Pakistan coast killed 250 yesterday, & 10 more died after a storm in Karachi.

But that's no solace to those in lovely Whiston, and not-so-lovely Catcliffe, who could never imagine such a thing. I believe 5 or 6 folks died in tragic drownings, too. The M1 remains closed between Junctions 32 to 35, train services are severely disrupted, & Sheffield is almost cut off by flooding. Hull & Worksop had it bad, too.

The average rainfall for the MONTH of June is 72mm - Hull had 100mm in ONE DAY, Fylingdales 103mm.

Mother Nature reminds us now & then of her phenonomal powers.

Saw some of the floods on the news last night.  I'm always amazed by the power that floods generate, totally devastating.

Well I think South and West Yorkshire took the worst of this, I have never seen anything like it before. Leeds on Monday was basically at a standstill. No trains, virtually every bus stop had 200 people queuing for it, lots of roads were flooded. Most trains are still not running and alot of people are either noth bothering going to work or coming in later and leaving early.

My ex in-laws live in South Yorkshire, luckily on high ground. You would expect them to be relatively unaffected, however the transport system has ground to a virtual halt, the roads are blocked and they fear the electricity will be cut off, it's affecting a lot more people than you first think.

Another wake up call to those who think they can tame nature.

May underground car park filled with water on Monday, luckily I dorve back into Leeds to find it half full and parked elsewhere. There is a guy who works away alot and owns a nice red jag down there. I don't think he'll be too happy when he gets back, with his car a probable write off. Insignificant compared with how some people have been affected though. We don't seem to cope well with adverse conditions.

The M1 remains closed between J32 & J35, & the A1 is now closed near Newark, so driving North, or coming South, is difficult, & the roads must be gridlocked.

I think the A1 is actually flooded, but the M1 is shut for fear of the reserevoir bursting. The road itself is fine, which makes it very frustrating for those travelling.
