I mentioned a few weeks back how difficult I found it to watch some of the Winter Olympics, speed-skating I think it was.

This week, I watched some of something called, I think, "Skeleton". Oh WOW!

They go down an icy track, no brakes or suchlike, lying on their face on a small sled thing, the speeds are colossal (100mph?), & one mistake & it's all over.

These are girls, & Ladies, incredibly brave, as brave as brave can be. And presumably, amateurs.

At the bottom of the track, the atmo is corinthian, just warm, & wonderful, to all competitors alike, everyone cheers everyone for getting down safely.

Proper sport, & I was enthralled by it.

Now, back to JT & AC at Chelsea..

Did you know we took the gold?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympic_games/vancouver_2010/skeleton/8520464.stm

Yes, & I thought it was just splendid for the girl. For a Brit - a West Country Brit at that - to win a Gold in that must be like a Hawaiian winning a skiing medal, it's almost impossible.

I scanned the Forum the next day fearing the worst though, reminded of ther brutal treatment our female Swimming Gold Medalist at the last Olympics got. Supposing she is not physically perfect, & has a big nose, or a hairy mole?

"Not keen on your one mate, you seen her hooter?" from some spotty poker geek who needs one off the wrist every night, amuses in a way, but it's kinda sad too. For the geeky guy, I mean.

You're winding me up aren't you?

Obsessed as I currently am with calorie counts & such like (temporarily, I assure you, binge eating will return in about 2 months time) I scrutinise the Calorie count in every packet of food I purchase, & "count the calories".

It's on every pack of food, in very small writing, so small that even with glases, my eyed have detoriorated so badly, that I have to ask the shop assistant what it says.

There is a photograph in The Times today, with an article to support it, showing a young kid at the cinema, stuffing a pack of popcorn down. It's a big bag, to be right, but the calorie count in that one bag - a 300g bag - is 1,800 calories!

The Popcorn's healthy enough - it'll be the sugar or butter on it that makes it so many calories.

How many calories a day are you on?

I am trying to keep it below 1,000 at the moment. Salads (well, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, chicken breast etc), grapes, pineapple, apple slices (fresh), Ryvita, Oxo Cubes, lots of water, it's amazing how much you can eat & drink in a day & still be below 1,000 calories.

I feel as healthy & fit as I ever have, no energy loss, sleeping well, full of zest. And I've not had one Rennie in the 3 weeks.

I'm beginning to think there may be a link between badly eating crap food, & indigestion. You never know, it could be true.

Mental exercise, yes, lots of it.

Physical exercise, a bit, I walk to & from the car, & to & from the smoking area, 4 or 5 times a day. You have to think healthy to be healthy.

I do a lot of casting, too. Bait-casting.

A pack of fresh apple slices (equivelant to one pple) in Boots or M & S Simply Food is a right bargain - 80p.

16 bob for an apple!

I could get a 300g pack of popcorn cheaper.

15? I'd starve!

But seriously, I think the GDA is 2,000, but I'm carrying plenty of stored body fat - stones of it - so I think 1,000 is OK at the mo. I'll ease off in a week or two.

As a curiosity, I wonder what Eric Lomax's daily calorie intake was?

A simple way to count calories is to assign a value of 100 to everything you eat, and then multiply it by between 1 and 20 on a sliding scale depending on how nice it is.

that'd be about right if you were a woman. you can add another 500ish onto that. keeping it below 1k for an extended period is probs pretty dangerous
