Rossy has resigned hasn't he? Who takes over as the highest paid BBC star? Davey and Matty possibly, Chrissy or maybe even Paxy?

No idea Mr Byron. I don't actually know to whom you refer when you mention Davey, Matty & Chrissy, (I expect I am being whooshed or levelled here) though Paxy is, of course, known to all, and a proper legend.

I think all or most of them earn a lot less than the dumbschmuck Red-Tops would have us believe, but their collateral earnings - just because they are "on telly"  - of all of them are indescribably massive. If I can get frequent offers to make "guest appearances" at 4 or 5 hundred quid  day - &, remarkably, miraculously even, I do - think what those guys must be able to earn!

Conversely, the figures attributed to Rossy as his earnings - often quoted as £18 million - were complete nonsense. That included his own company producing the Show, &, presumably all the associated costs. Which was why he was so miffed when he got taken off air for x months after BrandTwatGate, as the costs of running his Company continued (though most staff were freelance) but there was no Show to produce. It's actually unclear, however, if he continued to be paid during his enforced absence, as his Contract was oft-quoted as a lump-sum deal, but I doubt that.

I've yet to see it, but I gather you made a spectacular clever & funny retort to a "TK off the telly" Post. Only you, Sir, & I salute you for your wit. 7-2 indeed......

Getting back to big-earners on TV, the biggest earner I'm aware of at Sky would probbly be Mr Stelling - he DOES earn a lot. A serious lot. Hells Bells does not do too badly, either.

re war and stuff there's an "ask me about being in iraq" thread being posted which some people (kev perhaps?) might be interested in

Andy Gray probably gets a decent wage too.

Andy Gray probably gets a decent wage too earns far more than he deserves.

It's amazing that he's become the "can't be without co-commentator/presenter" for Premiership footy on Sky.  Surely there are others who can do just as good a job (or obviously do a better job) as well?

I remember that Everton wanted him to become their manager before they appointed David Moyes but Sky came up with a massive counter-offer to secure his services on a long-term contract.

If you are getting into Twitter TK, they are apparently rerunning the battle of Britain on the anniversary, using the diaries from the actual pilots.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/twitter/7583534/Battle-of-Britain-diaries-to-be-tweeted-in-real-time.html

Thanks Rod.

When we went to Duxford we actually sat in an aircraft suimulator which was programmed to be a WII pilot in combat, & to be honest, it scared me big time. The bravery of those pilots was extraordinary. I often wonder, should there be another conventional war, if modern youth would be as brave & durable, but many stories from the Falklands War seem to suggest they would, in particular that remarkable overnight yomp into Stanley.

This is a chap you will find very interesting Tikay, he was a personal friend of mine & my ALL time hero. I doubt that anyone will ever replace him either!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Holmes

You always bring up thought provoking lines on this blog & what you say about the youth of today may well be true, I doubt very much they would be lying about there age in order to go in to battle.

The guys that are in the forces right now are a different kettle of fish mind, the battles faced every day in Afganistan would be something none of us would want to encounter.

Thought I'd be interested until post #12  -

The most stressful experience was during my first deployment. It was the middle of the war and we were right in the middle of Baghdad. We came to a stop for the night and our higher decided that the most tactically sound place is a big landfill. We dug our usual fighting holes right into the trash, set up security, patrol schedule, tried not to fall asleep on the occasional broken syringe, and got nice and comfortable.
Around 2am came my squad's turn. We were informed that there's a 5,000-strong enemy unit lurking in the area and our job is to kill them should they be unlucky enough to run across us. Okay, not really, but basically we were to make sure they don't surprise us and radio should should we make contact.

Yeah, there sure was a 5k strong Iraqi unit in Baghdad.

Facebook, & Twitter.

Well you know my views. And now you know I've sold my soul.

They - we - measure EVERYTHING, microscopically, from every angle. And it turns out that FB is an effective - incredibly effective - Marketing tool, very cost-efficient, too. The cost is just labour (time), no more.

And Marketing is part of my new role.......

I had not opened my FB in about a year. So I took a look. It had 280 friends, & 450 "pending" my, ugh, "approval". Now that is an asset.

By the bye, if you don't want my FB Spam, & I don't blame you, delete me as a Friend, please. But it won't be spam as you know it, I'll mix it up, & be left-field in the blending. Trust me. I will.....

So, an Assistant was deputed to update my FB, I gave her my passwords & stuff, & she sorted it all out. Lovely, job done.

I have a "tracker", so the trick is to get clicks on the tracker. Easy, you'd think. But it was a nightmare, trying to figure it all out. You can cloak a tracker, or a link, with a short link, from a site called bit-something, all very clever, but it's a bit awkward to get it just so, & I'm failing dismally so far. Clicks recorded since we started on Friday are dismally low. And since Friday, I've "collected" another 100 FB "friends".

Then there's Twitter, that started Friday, too, my own Twitter page. Not really worked out how to use it yet, to best effect, but I will.

And we are trying to link my Twitter to my FB, & vice-versa. Nightmare.

A young lady was doing my Facebook entries & Tweets for the first day, at my request. I went to bed that night, & decided ithat was all wrong. The entries & Tweets have to be ME, be MINE, for it to work, so we reverted to that the next day.

Since then, I've been testing a few thngs, with a view to the cranky way I plan to make this work. And I will.

I googled Twitter & boned up on it. Sheesh, what a subject, what a powerful tool, but how complicated it all seems to me.

Again, it's had pitifully few clicks. I had Zero "followers" on Friday, when it began, & I have 40 as of now. Not good. But I've learned a few tricks today, so I know what I need to do. I think.

We shall see, but if you see me & my eyes are glazed over, it's because I've been researching Twitter & Facebook marketing methods. Who'd have thunk?

Now that is rock n roll. You now have staff to update your Facebook, how cool. Didn't David Cameron have one of those too?

Do you remember Ted Rogers Tony, he of 3 2 1 fame,? He used to have a girl that rang up to place his bets, she wopuld sit there with a long list of singles doubles etc and in the background you could hear Ted saying, ask what price that is,...no you silly mare the other one. So he was actually sitting beside her but still got here to phone em up, then gave her grief when she wasn't doing it exactly as he wanted. I hope your Facebook girl is getting looked after. ;o)

Although its a different channel and a different sort of telly programme, can you ask your colleagues at sky how much they think a 'Harry Hill Walk On' would get? If you watch TV Burp they tend to bring in a few guests from shows they are lampooning to come on and do something silly, Mark from Eastenders is on quite a bit and more recently that daft 100% straight guy from Pineapple Dance Studios. It would solve a long standing debate I have had, my old man reckons they would get something like £500 but I reckon it would be in the thousands as its prime time ITV.

Not sure on this one specific but I do know that people often earn less than you think. Soap actors on contract but without any scenes get £200 a week from the soap - industry miniumum wage - but this mostly means they can't work anywhere else while their contact is in place unless they are promoting the show. So being in a soap doesn't mean megabucks, you need scenes to make the money. Walk ons are not that much - I have a soap client coming in next week - I'll ask.
