At one point, in "Collider", they explain how simple it is.

"We inject some protons into the LHC".

How? What? In a teaspoon? In a compound? Do they shovel a wheelbarrow load in?

How do you find, & isolate, & inject something like that? Where do they find the proton? Is it in a packet?

You know, I have a tinsy winsy suspicion that it's all the Emporors suit of clothes. It's as intriguingly baffling as Baseball stats.

Since all atoms contain protons, I suspect they could use any old rubbish as the source.
They could have used a latte or a Mars bar or a Mars bar wrapper, for example.
This may get a bit "messy" and I believe that they actually use hydrogen and "strip the electrons off it".

For a slightly more scientific explanation see:

Geo

Err, no, not quite.....

In fact, it's for a cocktail of reasons, some of which I'll explain later, as they are, to me, quite interesting as to how this Charity binge began, & others which I cannot really go into, as they are deeply personal, & reflect an awkward time, & set of circumstances, in my life.

For now, I'm heading home, as I have the weekend off, (my first since February, I think) & nothing useful to do with myself. So I may well end up in the DTD £200 1 dayer, as I need to discuss some business issues with Rob & Nick, & tomorrow, the Luton £100. I also plan/need to see Tom at some stage over the weekend, as we have various bits & pieces to sort out.

Have a good weekend.

You seem to have omitted Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones from your list of artists Tony.

Peroxide...pimped-up black Beemer..."Stan" blasting out the Bang & Olufsens at Volume 11...sure I've seen this before somewhere?

Also, for someone so anti Dave Grohl, what are Tenacious D doing in your hit parade please?

If you think the LHC is impressive (it is, but it's merely a scaled up version of previous accellerators), have a look at ITER - the fusion reactor project. Rather amazing stuff. They might even get more energy out than they put in in the next couple of decades. Possibly.

I think he should be made both an Earl and an OBE, which would make him an earlobe.

That would be a hefty title to lug around.

I have just had to make a quick visit to youtube to remind myself that Led Zeppelin were actually as good as I recall as they seem to have been somehow missed by everybody, They were about 20 years old when their first album was released and they produced something back then that U2 have still never managed to come close to.

imo.

Surely not? The PM'd warning from 2+2 came from one "Bobo-Fett".....can't be him, surely?!

In fact, he's a regular at SP. Probz a different one.

But I did get some PM'd replies to my now disappeared Post. Wink

Sadly not. Why is the thread "only" musical guilty pleasures?

Widen the brief & I'm there.
