US population is a third bigger now than when MASH was shown, so lower overall % of people watching needed to get more viewers.

True, the superbowl is beyond massive in the US.
Yes, certainly, but do you not find the 27 year gap between 3rd & 2nd a little odd?
I buy "2011 Superbowl biggest ever audience", but the overall top 3 stat looks sussy to me.
Probably to do with their being much fewer telly channels 27 years ago
. According to Wiki the Mash finale had a massive 79.2% of all households watching it. the only thing I can think of that's bigger in the states in the superbowl.
Yes......so the TV audience was bigger in those days, Telly was the thing then, it was pre-mass-internet, remember, & with fewer channels, it compresses the audience figures.
So how come, all of a sudden, 27 years later, with TV viewing in steep decline due to a whole plethora of changing social habits, & TV channels by the thousand, the 2010 & 2011 Superbowls suddenly top that?
The more I think about it, the less I believe it.
Yes, HUGE Superbowl audiences, no doubt about that. But that huge, all of a sudden?
I saw a debate about it somewhere else, a bit of a heavy Forum, & the logic for the oddly high figures in '10 & '11 was the massive acceleration of Online betting, & in-running betting.
Does anyone have access to Gaming Industry estimates for the amount wagered on last week's Superbowl, versus the weekly norm?

Yup, just seen it, bear with me please. I don't have skype, I'm afraid, so it'll have to be a proper telephone, or e-Mail/PM.
I'll try & deal with it over the weekend. For now, bed awaits, sorry.

I think paying them would be too dangerous.
If I were Jean Paul I would have gone on telly with the entire 3,2 mil piled up on a table. Then I would have said to the kidnappers,
"I'm not giving this money to you, but if I don't get my Grandson back alive, I'll spend every last penny tracking you down".
Lol.
I raise.

Tikay..u going to play the euro deepstack ?.....lol..you could fold to victory..
Possible, but very unlikely, for a variety of reasons, some which I previously explained. In a way I'd love to, but then again, I'd hate myself if I did. I belive Tighty may have some good news about it soon, though.
Did you win your £10,000 Vegas package on Sky Poker, then? Just a fold to the seat jobbie for you, I'd have thought.
Sigh..had the world 7 out 3 seats.. then made a horrific call with 2nd pair and a gutshot for half my stack...still trying to figure out what i was doing.... then ran AK into A8 but thank you for asking...
poker goal is still to have you running errands for me in vegas so be careful what you wish for...
I'm safe, not even got a sweat on.

Mel Gibson did that when his son got kidnapped.

That's where I got the idea.

All i can find is that $87.5mill was wagered on it in Vegas this year (with a bookies profit of $724k)
http://superbowlblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/02/of-the-875-million-wagered-on.html
Ten years ago (1998) the wagering in Vegas was 77mill so the increase doesn't look too much but I'm guessing that there are now also tonnes of bets online which is something that wasn't available 10 years ago.
Obviously you have to take in to account that only a small % of all bets (estimated at approx 1% believe it or not) in the States are done in Nevada but that's the only state where it's legal so that's the only state where there are figures from.
That's all I could find with a quick google...maybe someone in the gambling industry has exact figures...(Or andrewT was work his magic googling skills) but I can't find anything that compares average NFL games betting with Superbowl betting.
don't know how reliable this website is but it gives some indication as to how important the Superbowl is for the gambling industry.

I'd guess that it was the Black Eyed Peas half-time show.
