Those digital watches were absolute murder everyone used to beep on the half-hour.

I feel for your loss Tony, I have a card-protector (sneered at by the kidz I know) which I use on the scarce occasions these days on which I play live poker and it's a medal my dad won for table-tennis in the 1930's and I automatically pick it up and place it in my top pocket every time there is a break.

I only use it as it's the perfect size and weight plus it's a bit of a conversation-piece which allows me to brag about my dad to complete strangers, I would be absolutely distraught if I lost it.

Surely karma will come to rescue and make sure that you get your kettle back.

I was under the (probably false) impression that there were cameras everywhere at Sky.  Might be worth checking just in case your desk is in the line of a CCTV camera.

Yep, that's earth from 6,000,000,000km taken by Voyager 1. The most distant photo of earth ever taken.

Time for some Carl Sagan me thinks...

Thanks Ralph.

I've rarely, if ever, seen you play Liver Poker without that little Card Protector of yours, & I know what a conversation piece it is.

Meanwhile, watch news incoming.....

I have my watch back!

Can barely believe it.

My cleaner came yesterday, & left me a note, with the watch next to it.

She said she had seen the watch laying on my drive, under where I park my car, & was it mine?

Incredible.

I must have failed to put it on properly, & it fell off as I went to get in the car to go to work.

I have parked on the drive every night since, & all weekend, & I never once saw it. It was unmarked, no scratches, nothing, so I had not managed to run over it, either.

As expected, it was my fault, but I'm so relieved to get it back, I can't begin to tell you.

Sadly, I had some pretty bad news this morning, so one problem solved, another created.

Big thanks to sall those who wrote to me about the missing watch, & the advice. Much appreciated.

Interest in my jogging & latte habits, but no interest in that wonderful cormorant, fml.

I bet a pound to a pinch of shit that if I had called the Cormorant by it's alternative (& equally correct) name, everyone would have commented.

http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/s/shag/index.aspx

Two distinct species though in the UK:

http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/families/cormorants.aspx

I'm still quite unable to tell them apart visually.

I don't like using the alternative name, nobody seems able to resist the joke.

Anyway, on last night's Show, the matter of cormorants & shags arose somehow, perhaps because I found the opportunity to Post my cormorant photo on the Show Thread. Can't help myself.

I was half-dreading the usual childish nonsense with the name, but one chap earned himself a spot-prize with this splendid piece of subtlety....

does the term LOVE A DUCK stem from the cormorants alternative name?

Which I thought pretty good, huh?

We also had a wonderful debate about whether cormorants are birds or ducks, & I'm not 100% confident I know the correct answer, but I'm guessing "no".

Also discussed were Motorway Gantries, Elton John, MC Hammer, & even at one stage, poker.

Ducks are birds, surely.

Yes, I suppose they are. But there are birds, & ducks. A mallard, say, is a proper duck, a duck duck.  A cormorant is more of a bird bird than a duck bird.

The bird family must be divided into ducks & non-ducks, surely?

I wonder if the difference is webbed feet? If so, Chompy would be a duck, I'm pretty sure.

I must have failed to put it on properly, & it fell off as I went for my morning jog.
