Sky, Feltham, Tuesday

Stayed over after last night's Show, & was in the Office before 9am today - it's almost like a proper job, this.

Paperwork all morning, then another Conference Call at midday, which went well. We were setting up Live Days, & Overseas Trips, pretty exciting stuff for me. Organising Events & Trips is much more complex logistically than most would realise, & it's interesting to be on the "other side".

I'm due in West London at 6pm for a Meet, & I'll return to Feltham afterwards, as I'm staying over again, as I'm in the Studio at 9am on Wednesday with Norman Pace, for what we hope will be the final Pilot Show for a new Weekly Show. If we get done in time - 5pm will get me out of it - I'll dash up to Nottingham in time for the Wednesday night £100 Omaha, failing which, I'll play Luton on the way home.

I worked with Norman last night, & he told me he's coming to the Bash, with Bev, too, so that's good news. Compo has also confirmed, & I've invited a few friends from Sky, as my personal Guests.

Sadly, I spoke to Thewy today, & he can't make the Bash, as he's Camping that weekend. (Eh?). He gave me his usual Dublin Invite to have dinner with his Mum this weekend if I go across to the Irish Open, (she does the best Roast Dinner on Earth) but I'm doubtful, the Diary is mad daft.

Spoke to Steve "wormster" Meehan yesterday too, & the fight to get Poker Week back on screen continues. I miss that Show so much, working with Compo & Steve every week was so much fun, & I do think the Show appealed to pokerists. There are not enough of them, sadly, & most Channels want it sexed up, which is awkward for a factual Poker Magazine Show. Anyway, Steve may have found a Channel that will take it, so fingers crossed.

Chili called too, she can't 'arf nag, it's like being married.....

OK, SouthWest Trains to Waterloo await, then I can eulogise over a choice of Tube Routes to Kings Cross, & I return by Train later. Does life get any better than that, on a March Tuesday?

tony is steve attending the bash? if so pplease tell him we would love to have him in the footie again.

I reminded him about it yesterday, & he told me he would be checking his Diary, & putting hs name down if he possibly can. Might be worth PM-ing him to remind him. His memory is shorter than his legs.

Get off at Vauxhall and get the Victoria line to King's Cross - by far the quickest route.

STANDARD. But lack of time dictated I took this route. Shame though, as it means I missed admiring Waterloo.

Days Inn, Luton, Friday.

I'm heading South, for tomorrow's Show, & stopped off here for a couple of nights, & played the £50 at Luton last night.

Been a helluva week, but it's get up to date day today, so here goes.....

The English language is capable of such delicious ironies & miunderstandings if you take it, err, literally, which, I suppose, is how Language should be taken.

Heard at Luton last night, which amused me greatly, but nobody else, apparently.

"Bloody Plasma".

Well I thought it was funny, anyway.

Hi Simon,

Yup, I'll be there, hope you are too.

I'm staying down here tonight, might play the Luton £75 if I feel better (I'm a bit achey today), & doing the Show tomorrow, then coming home to play DTD on Sunday night.

Hope all is well with you & yours.

You better be at blonde Bash, too. NO EXCUSES.

As Red pointed out in his breathtakingly good Diary, Spring has arrived.

There was an awesome pic in yesterday's Telegraph of a Cuckoo Chick being fed by a Meadow Pipit, but I can't find it Online, & this is the best I could find.

You have to wonder what the teeny-weeny Mother (foster-Mother, really, as Common Cuckoos get bought up by foster parents) wonders when she arrives to feed "her" chick, which is, like, 4 times larger than her!

gone to thread for blonde bash this morning to apply. waiting for response from Tighty. are places still available ? bit worried bout travelling distance though !!!!!!!!!

Btw, spring is just the most glorious n interesting time. Just creates two probs. Mrs slowmo starts wanting work in the garden and , much much worse,  I get invites to play the stupid game- golf . Me and Sam Clarke made huge mistake of signing up for Wollaton winter league. Me cant hit proverbial barn door from 10 yards at moment. Of course I blame it all on old age and bad back and knee but plain fact is I just no good anymore. AND you can imagine I am picture of cool n calm when i play bad. Glad you well, dont overdo it old fella .

As most of us know, Common Cuckoos (but not most of the other varieties) lay their eggs in the nests of other birds (typically Meadow Pipits) & then bugger off, that's their job done.

The resident Mother then broods the egg, & feeds the giant chick it until it flies off, & by Summer, the Cuckoo Chick is done & dusted, & sets off for Africa, all on it's lonesome

Remarkably, when the Cuckoo Chick first hatches, certainly within 48 hours, it already possesses great instincts. Nature craftily plans it so that the Cuckoo Chick hatches before the natural hosts eggs hatch, & the Baby Cuck knows that if it's Foster-Mum is gonna feed it's own chicks too, there won't be enough food to go round.

So what does the fledgling, 48 hour old Cuckoo chick do? Easy-peasy. Chucks out the hosts eggs. Here we see the featherless Cuckoo Chick lifting up an egg on it's back, in the processs of ejecting the egg from the nest. Daft, it ain't.

Instinct for survival is some clever trick.

The egg that the cuckoo lays is the right colour for the species it enlists as foster parents.

Of course we can find room for you at blonde Bash Simon, it's all down to you that blonde even exists in a weird roundabout way. It was you that introduced me to this bloody Poker lark, & now look at the roads that's taken me down.

You cool & calm on a Golf Course? Yeah, right. You should come to the Luton Golf Day, June 2nd, at Mentmore. A round of Golf with a bunch of poker players, lunch, & a £100 Freezeout in the Evening at Luton, all for less than £150. You know it makes sense.
