I believed the email until..

"I'll really appreciate your prompt response"

Just didn't sound right.

Had the chequebook out before that line and everything. #heartstrings

Bugger, I so nearly had you.

Tears in my eyes here, tears in my eyes.

I don't understand the point of the email.

They aren't scamming anyone, anyone who gets the email would either delete it or contact you and find out it wasn't sent by you.

Is it just to cause you annoyance? Or am I missing something?

I'm assuming they want people to reply to the email and then they can give them the details they want money sent to

But they are using tikay's email address aren't they?

He gets any email, not the scammer.

I honestly don't understand it either, Keith.

I can't help but think they just do it to cause aggro, much like people vandalize 'phone boxes or "key" cars.

I've been contacted by around 30 people who have now feceived it, & I guess that's just the start.

Is Jake all set for Xmas? You got his pressies yet? How were the socks you were given by the relatives, usual schmusual?

What a thing this Christmas malarky is.

The new freakonomics book has an excellent explanation why these scams appear so incredibly stupid and for most people impossible to fall for. For example the Nigerian 'I will send you 100 million' scams.

Basically it's a way of selecting out everyone but the incredibly gullable. If they send to say 1 million people. There might be maybe 1,000 people who might be fooled enough to reply to a ligit looking emal, but would then realise what was going on and pull out. However, when you make the email look very dodgy and implausible, you might only get 1 or 2 people respond, but they are likely to be very easy to con, as they have already shown as much by falling for such a silly opening email. Its to weed out the 'false positives'.

Their podcast explains it well:

They effectively "steal" my e-Mail address (using the old Password) I assume.

I've got a new Password now, so fingers crossed it will now be OK.

The scammers even sent me a "replacement" e-Mail address to use.

If you have received an e-Mail from me this morning from my personal (i.e., not work) e-Mail address.....

1) Apologies. Ignore it.

2) Please be assured I am not stranded in Turkey, & have not asked you to send me money.

Snoopy & Kara Scott have alreasy received these e-mails.

I could kick myself, I walked into it I think.

I got a note this morning saying I had to "verify" my Account, & it appeared to come from Yahoo!, so I did so. Big mistake, it seems.

FFS, what is it with everyone these days loving the chance to cause aggro?

Bollox. I've  sent you a monkey in US dollars, 1000 cigs and 2 of those specialist magazines you asked for. Couldn't get you the train mag as was a bit embarrassed to ask for it but did get the December editions of Cockring and Big n bouncy. If this is a reverse con I hope the weather is nice and the food is good.

I'm not too sure Tony, but I think this book might tick a few of your reading matter criteria boxes. I've read everything ever written by Brian Plummer, and I once had a merle lurcher from his strain. (See 'Merle, The Start of a Dynasty')

Betfair really annoy me by sending out promo emails that insist you opt in for the promo and when you click on the opt in box it takes you to a login page.

They are just begging for someone to scam their customers.

This was an armed police officer at a siege in Sydney.

Wonder how these guys are supposed to move about in all that gear?

reminded me of the Martin Lewis luggage jacket to avoid RyanAir fees

With that rifle having a scope I'd imagine he's a sniper where mobilty isn't the priority.
