If Jeff Lynne spoke like Ozzie Osbourne...

".....I travel to London from LA & New York for filming, & am rarely in London for more than 10 days at a time. This year I've flown 1,900,000 miles......"

I saw that today, in an interview with Will.I.am.

I had to look him up, never heard of him or his daft name, but apparently he was in a pop group, & is now an X-Factor judge or somesuch.

His real name is Bill Adams, but we have to address him as Will.I.am. Note the full stops, & random upper & lower case, it's important.

He must be pretty famous, or cool - he has 12.7 MILLION Twitter Followers.

That's how we judge fame & celebrity these days - by the number of Twitter Followers they have.

Anyway, he claims to have flown 1,900,000 miles in 2014, to & forthing between LA, New York & London.

Unless my maths are suspect, that is the equivelant of flying from London to Las Vegas EVERY DAY FOR A YEAR. That in itself would take 10 hours per day, 14 if you add in time at the airport @ both ends.

I reckon he is telling porky pies.

Tell you what, though - he has a proper nice motor. Now that is some pretty motor car.

He seems to care about carbon footprint, too, recently attending a Climate Change Conference in this lil helicopter.......

He is a fashion icon, too, what about this for a cool get up?

All very impressive, then, & good luck to the boy. But 5,000 air miles per day? I don't think so. I doubt anyone believes that, tbh. Just Will.I.am.

Meanwhile, this man only has 9 milly Twitter Followers. (Should it be an upper case "F" there?).

And that is despite being the modern day Bono, or Sting, saving the world on our behalf.

"Social Conscience" is his thing, apparently.

This is the man who thought it was com to joke on a Radio programme about humping some girl, even 'phoned the girls Grandad to tell him. Oh how we all laughed.

Think I'll manage without his advice, tyvm.

Bet he travels 20 zillion miles per year in airplanes, too.

Has a nice motor, though, these guys all have such lovely motors. Am I jealous? Yeah, a bit.

Meanwhile, Simon Cowell (only 11.1 milly Followers) has 2 puppies, as you can see.

They are named Squidly & Diddly. Fascinating stuff, eh?

Now this man has some serious motors.

What a life, eh?

Think I need to cure my fixation with these Celeb types. I just can't imagine how much money they must earn. I don't begrudge them, no no, but the numbers are eye-watering.

Thanks David, some cracking ones there, not seen many of those before.

Barbara Windsor, who was in several of them, certainly kept some bad company back in the day, what with the Krays & others. She married hardcore gangster Ronnie Knight (John Knight's bro) & both brothers spent plenty of time inside for various armed robberies & whatnot.

Given all that, her being a "moll", she did surprisingly well in her Film & TV Career, & even now she does those (horrendous) Bingo ads on TV.

Finally (yay!) on Celeb Twitter Types, a chap called Harry Styles, who is in a band called ID, has 23 million Twitter Followers, & his bandmates Niall (20.9 million), Liam (18.9 million) & Louis (18.3 million) don't do so bad either.

But Zayn only has 13.7 million, poor lad. Why is he so unpopular? Looks a lovely boy.

Last month saw the 30th anniversary of the first ever Mobile Phone call in the UK.

Here was the promo picture, featuring Ernie Wise (not the funny one, that's Eric).

Don't think they'll ever catch on, too big & bulky. Imagine us all sitting at a poker table with one of these in our hand.

Ha!

Thanks Tom.

I still have 6 or 7 pieces in my little "must Diary" list, but they may have to wait, as I'm tired, & have some other stuff to sort.

As others (you, Conky etc) have alluded, when there is no feedback, the assumption is that nobody is interested, or enjoys it (no no, I'm not fishing for feedback), which sort of stings a bit.

Then again, feedback requires replies, & so stops me posting more "new" stuff.

Never happy, me.

Truth is, I don't really care, as I just enjoy writing bits & pieces, I find it very satisfying. Photos - imo - add a LOT to Diary Posts.

I'm sort of trying to do a "2014 personal wrap up", & it's taking me longer than I thought, still got loads to do.

Still want to mention the best & worst books I read in 2014, & some other boring stuff, including some eye-watering stats.

I resumed playing poker yesterday, too, my first session in 2014. Made £15.20. You hear that? FIFTEEN POUNDS TWENTY PENCE. Epic scenes.

Work has been very busy all Xmas, too, what with one thing & another.

I am increasingly interested in the Twitter phenom though, more of which to follow.

I try to find a photo with most Updates, to bring them to life, but I can't think of one that works with this entry.

How about this one - I was sad to see City Link went ino administration over Xmas, they had such lovely lorries.

BIG company, too.

Unforch, something went wrong, & they had a bit of an accident.

Not a bad photo this - lorry, train & bridge, all in one photo, BOOM.

what possible upside do you think there was from announcing the citylink administration on xmas day?

i know stuff goes on, but that seemed harsh to say the least

Yes, that must have been painful, but there is a (financial/legal) upside.

Administrators have a legal obligation to minimise losses, & optimise asset recovery. It's not a moral choice, it is an actual duty, & if they fail, they get their arse sued big time.

I don't know the facts at all, but I can imagine various scenarios where doing it on Xmas Day was necessary.

Maybe the monthly payroll was auto-paid on the 26th of every month, so that's a few hundred thou saved. Maybe Lorry Leases needed renewing shortly (Jan 1st?), or property rents & leases had to be paid in the next day or two.

I don't know, of course, but whether they did it on the 24th, 25th or 26th, the one-sided "how horrible" stories in the gutter press would have been identical.

I feel very sorry for the Staff, of course I do, but it's just business, & any Administrator would have done the same.

The Business had been losing money hand over fist for many a year, but I don't have any idea why, it's not a Company I follow really. I just loved their lorries.

I used to do a lot of night driving on the Motorways, & the City Link lorries were such a familiar sight.

Perhaps they should have painted their articulated trailers like these?
