It's open to the public, and no, not an embassy.

You'll love the reason....

I think I know the answer, & oddly enough, I walked past it just 2 weeks ago without realising the significance.

I'm assuming it is NOT this place though, which is also in London.

And there's the problem with trusting a newspaper.

The one I was referring to is a bit more upmarket...

And from the same source:

What's the significance of this grave?

I don't have the faintest idea, but the moment I saw it, I thought of Karl Marx's grave, probably because that's the only "famous" grave I know in London.

I suppose it must be the grave of an extremely tall person?

Is it the most expensive street in London? I'm now off to google.

You may know the answer because the pic you linked to is from an article that tells you it.

I do know the answer, but only because I could not resist cheating.

A most unlikely answer, too.

Not one you'd get unless you paid particular attention to the design of the grave.

It was what the traditional red phone box was based on (or so I'm told).

Quote
Sir John Soane's mausoleum in the churchyard of Old St Pancras. The shape of the tomb was a direct influence on Giles Gilbert Scott's design for the famous phone booths.

So you got this one then:

Chauvinistic reason, but nicely so....

The road where cars drive the wrong way

The Savoy's driveway is the only road in London where the cars drive on the right. They must even go anticlockwise round the roundabout outside the hotel's doors. Why? Women traditionally sat on the right side of the car, behind the driver. This arrangement meant they could tumble straight into The Savoy without having to walk all the way around the vehicle.

Both came from the Telegraph (spits) online's photo article on London's secret sights.

I only got it by googling, but just 2 weeks ago, on a sort of "ramble" around the nicer parts of London with my wallking companion, I walked right past that very entrance & never noticed the oddity.

PS - what's wrong with The Daily Telegraph? 2nd best (National) newspaper in the UK, imo.

The Torygraph? Their conduct before, during and after the Scottish referendum was despicable. Made the BNP seem well balanced and open minded.

Oooh, I see.

I don't read the politics sections in newspapers, I just want hard news, the facts.

You should perhaps try "The Times", I am quite sure you'd enjoy that. Well, a bit quite sure.

I thought there were no "roads" in the City of London?

On the excellent Michael Portillo's programme last night - bradshaw's train journeys etc...a cabbie gave him a challenge

"give me a route from bishopsgate to the old bailey that does not cross a road"

and as Geo implies, its a trick question, as the City of London only contains lanes, streets, gates, etc and not a single road

tikay probably knew this

I've no idea, Geo, but The Savoy is not in the City of London.
