I went on one a couple of years ago and it was boredom beyond belief.  Totally like Tikay i was constantly looking at the clock to see when the pain would end.  The instructor was such a typical nowadays PC type who really loved doing these courses.  If you ever wake up on a Monday morning and think you got a tough life it could always be worse.  You could be an instructor for a speed awareness course.

I think the best way to reduce speeding would be scrapping points/fines and make it compulsory to attend one of these courses every time you speed and make them gradually longer and longer the more often you get caught speeding.  I would be much more likely to stop speeding if i knew that was the penalty than being offered a £100 fine instead.

No scientific evidence to back you up, but last year I thought I'd been caught by a camera and it ruined my week, waiting to get the speed awareness course through the post. I would actually say it has made me driver slower, whereas with a fine it's soon forgotton about.

Any chance of a bump on your own blog mr shoelace? You have seemed awfully quite on the twitters of late, which makes me suspect you are working on something at least medium sized.

Yeah you are correct, I have two little side projects underway. Neither of them (directly) poker related. Probs wont be doing a blog anytime soon.

Also generally speaking, while I still love Twitter, I'm starting to see how toxic it can be and what an echo chamber it is. It's just a place for people to purposely take things out of context and be mean to each other.

Be interested to know what they are. But understand if you want to keep them under wraps for now.

And yeah that's as true for Twitter as any other online community. I'm not sure it's any worse or better than forums/facebook/vine/instagram etc. It's just the one I (you) use most. I tend to be pretty heavy on the block and mute button and still find it interesting and useful.

Realise there is at least a 40% chance you think I am one of the above people though Smiley

Ha. You do actually lean towards the troll-y side of things, but thankfully the entertaining side.

I think Twitter is probably the worst. It tends to be where people show off their 'public face' so you get a lot of people signalling all their virtues, often by taking shots at people they think are transgressing the same virtues. Also with just 140 characters, it's very easy to (willfully) take things out of context.

They all have their negatives. You see some real idiocy on facebook, some real nastiness on Youtube and my god have you ever seen Tumblr?

Projects are one with Mr Tendler which I can probably reveal more about but wont yet to be on the safe side. The other I'm keeping quiet probably for the rest of the year.

Yeah I try and moderate it, and only ever do it if I think it's funny and harmless. I tend to delete the more misjudged ones just out of not wanting to offend rather than anything else.

Did you read Jon Ronson's latest book? Had a line in there that Facebook was where you lied to your friends and Twitter was where people told the truth to strangers. I think that's a big part of it, that it feels very personal after a while and other people's opinions are in your personal space. I don't feel like that, but can see others do.

Twitter definitely has an image problem at the moment though. Like a lot of things what made it great is what threatens to destroy it. And how it handles the next 12 months and the bullying and whining and group thinks and witch hunts will dictate if it's here in a couple of years time imo

I can honestly say I've never spent much time on tumblr. Isn't it just a weird mix of porn, people who think they are artists and emo kids?

Yeah Jon Ronson's book is the best one I've read this year. I've read everything he has ever done and actually went to see him do a book read (Like a nerd I was first in line to get my copy signed). As an aside, I thought that shame therapy chapter where everyone telling each other they resented each other was piss funny.

IMO that book is the most important book yet about social media and I am noticing people are starting to moderate their own part in these mobs. It has certainly contributed heavily to my own issues with Twitter.

Tumblr is awful, if you don't know it don't bother looking. One of those places where everyone celebrates victimhood and tries to bring each other down, rather support each other. I've probably only seen the worst of it though.

the trees that looked like they were smoking would of be drying out
the evaporation in the twilight and possibly the head lights of passing cars
would of made them look as if they were eluding smoke
it would just be cold water hitting warm air (or have i got that wrong way round i think i might have)

as a keen aircraft forum watcher, what is now your best guess as to what happened to MH370?

Surely speeding at jct 10 of the M1 to get away from Luton is fully acceptable.
