Are people so petty minded that get upset & make forum posts about chuffing coffee cups?

Other than that a very quiet one, you?

Well before we address Xmas, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving day this week, though for domestic reasons, it'll be on Friday, a day late.

We both adore all things USA, Gill especially, so we have an annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Gill gets all the proper stuff, pumpkin pie & all that shite, & really makes it a special occasion.

If past years are anything to go by, I shall get excluded from the kitchen from 2 hours prior whilst she prepares everything, & ponces the dinner table up with a special themed tablecloth, napkins, candles & all that stuff.

The only time I'm allowed downstairs during preparations is when she sets the smoke alarm off, which she never fails to do when cooking.

Then I get the call "it's ready" & I go down to see what she has done. Wear smart clothes & everything, like what posh people do at dinner.

And she positively beams with pride. Quite right too, it's just great, & I adore it.

So that's Friday.

Then on Saturday, we have a mini adventure planned. It's a secret though, so I can't tell you.

Andre Rieu

Well I have to confess I had never heard of him.

I only know of 2 violin blokes, Yehudi Menuhin, & that punky one, Nigel Somebody.

So I Wiki'd Andre, & was stunned by how many people go to his concerts, & how much money his tours gross;

Recent world tour results in Billboard / Pollstar annual worldwide top tours lists

2015 #20 101 shows $51,151,367 Billboard Top 25 Tours 2015[5]
2014 #17 70 shows $42,983,266 Billboard Top 25 Tours 2014[6]
2013 #20 70 shows $49,881,605 Billboard Top 25 Tours 2013[7]
2012 #10 99 shows $46,785,71 Billboard Top 25 Tours 2012[8]
2011 # 9 102 shows $67,104,756 Billboard Top 25 Tours 2011[9]
2010 #16 86 shows $39,992,285 Billboard Top 25 Tours 2010[10]
2009 # 6 112 shows $95,854,338 Billboard Top 25 Tours 2009[11]
2008 # 8 71 shows $76.9 mll Pollstar’s top 10 worldwide tour acts 2008

Isn't that something? 101 gigs in a year, that like 2 every week.

I actually think it'd be good to go see him, Gill would love it I think. I just loathe using Ticketing Websites though, they irritate & spam me to bits for ever more, so maybe we'll try & catch him on telly.

I bet Jeff Lynne's ELO or Robbie barely get more people at concerts than that Violin Bloke.

Yeah he is on Sky Arts a lot, especially during the week between Crimbo and New Year. I know because I make myself scarce from the living room.

OK, will keep an eye out for that.

Have to say, Sky Arts is the nuts, & I check it daily for stuff. 90% of my "saved" recordings are from Sky Arts, all of them music based. Eagles, Hollies, Jeff Lynne, Sir Roderick Stewart, Elton, Ten CC, Marshall Amps, Floyd, Knopfler, Amy, Quo etc. Don't have any posh stuff like violins though.

Life's Great Mysteries, part 738

Selfies are OK I suppose, but the latest thing is "killfies", where folks take selfies in dangerous places or ways.

One poor lady, Carmen Greenway, took one whilst on her bicycle a few weeks ago, & was killed moments later.

Then you get these nutjobs who want to take selfies in dodgy places.

How was Vilamoura, or wherever it was? Spain, I assume?

EDIT - google tells me it is Portugal. Very nice. How was Lord Grumpy?

Hard to miss Andre if you spend even 5 mins on sky arts. I guess, hitherto, yr uncultured ears have been closed. Speaking of which, other than rod and possibly quo that is like a list of a complete bag o shite. If I was put in a room with the eagles, Floyd and knopfler playing in turn with a sharp instrument to hand it wouldn't take long

Seen the name "Andre Someone" but as I had never heard of him/her I ignored. "Uncultured ears"? Guilty as charged Mr Snobby Bloke from Hertfordshire.

The rest are a bog o shite?

Get outta here. Your problem is you are old, & old people don't get music.

Gilmour & Knopfler are the nuts.

You'll be telling me next you don't admire & respect Meat Loaf - did you see the recent Meat documentary? Fabulous.

He's 69, well overweight, but still getting the job done. He's unwell right now, but I hope he'll soon be back, the guy is one of a kind.  Bat Out of Hell alone sold 43 million copies.

Love him to bits.

I have to confess to owning bat out of hell at the time. Losing it was one of the few upsides of a house fire that took care of all my vinyl

Getting the job done? Does half a job his concerts are so short. Like his music but wouldn't bother going to a gig. Not like Springsteen, does a job and a half Cheesy

Springstein? Are you serious?

Would not watch or listen to him if you paid me.

Nirvana, loan me that sharp instrument please. Listen to Springstein, never.

Evening Tikay.

Portugal was excellent thank you, great weekend had by all. There was naps, diet coke was flowing, all the ingredients needed for a good time.

What is even better is that it took 4.5 hours to get from Manchester Airport to York last night, all the while whilst my coat was setting up home in Bristol for a new life down south. Who needs a coat in November in England anyway?
