Had a very enjoyable weekend at the APAT team competition. Managed to put faces to aliases for a couple more blondes (hello KarmaDope and engy), got to play a live PLO8 comp as well as a fun locals DC cash game. I was far too nitty for their liking but the ribbing was mostly good humoured. Between one of the best rage tilt sessions I've seen and the genuinely funny table talk it was great entertainment. Still not got a clue what the rules of Maltese Cross or Matrix are but had a blast and loved Paduecey but getting dealt high cards all the time in that was frustrating. Tried to offset part of my nitness by joining in the session-ending final two six-way £75 flips. Seven cards each face down, one card turnover. A pony from each player for the winning Padooki hand, a pony each for the winning Matrix hand and I guess something else for the final pony. Think I made a small profit on the first flip, nothing on the second.

Loved it, would play more often if it wasn't so far away. Had to play holdem cash on Saturday night as nothing else was running. Must be a local thing but a 1/1 game with nine grand on the table was a little different. I guess there is some reason they don't call it 2/5 as that's effectively how it played.

The casino had a huge 15' foot square screen showing the Superbowl and there was the usual casino crowd and APAT stragglers in the bar watching.

As well as 12 middle-aged guys - who I assumed were friends - all wearing authentic NFL tops and matching caps. Don't know why but it looked so out of place in freezing Blackpool in February.

It got me wondering if somewhere in hicksville, North Dakota or similar a bunch of Americans meet up in a bar at three in the morning wearing crisp whites and floppy hats to watch an Ashes test match.

Yes was nic meeting up with everyone off here, really enjoyed the weekend and thanks to Karmadope for organising everything. We ended up fourth in the team thing I think and I went in 15th losing AQ to Aj at pre which if held I would've had a good run at it I think

Great stuff, APAT is the best.

One of the lads Next Door came 2nd in the Main Event, goes by the alias of wynne1938, though I don't know his real name.

Wynne Gibson apparently. Looks very good for 79/80 if that's the case.

Semi-interesting hand with 20 left. I was railing an acquaintance when she open limps (she does that...) from the lojack (?) playing around 25bb. Wynne raised to 3.2bb from the hijack playing 50bb-ish and she called.

Flop  .

She shoves after 3 or 4 seconds.

Wynne INSTA calls.

Her vs  .

Gotta win those 30/70s if you're going to make the final 2.

Personally, I've never enjoyed Team Comps in poker, but it's a regular thing at APAT & the punters love it. Emotions can get a bit high,  but they seem to love it.
Wynne Gibson is his name. Been a member of the HitSquad team next door, from almost the beginning. Very much a rec but enjoys playing his poker and that's all that matters.(like me really) 80 years young too.
Edit- also he's saying he went down to a single chip on day 1 so quite a comeback.

Nice to meet you on Saturday and play on the same table with you for a couple of hours (or bottles of red in your case  Cool )  .

I was one of them stragglers that stayed and watched the Superbowl on Sunday night.....not really a fan, but the Bar was still open!

Was at the APAT all weekend too. I enjoy team games as they give us chance to catch up with friends on forums we don't see often. The APAT ones are especially good as you get to play other forms of poker tournaments.

I snapped this handsome fellow as I strolled along the river Trent today.

Surprised Leipzig has an airport big enough to handle an A380 jumbo.

Where on earth is it flying off to? Surely Lufthansa don't have a hub in Leipzig? So is it flying to Munich/Frankfurt/Berlin first to then head off to San Francisco/Cape Town/Bangkok?

So many questions.

Apparently they do the training flights from Leipzig

Pretty sure this trainee pilot has taken a wrong turn somewhere enroute to the runway...

If you took that photo Ralph, then a career in photography awaits you. Fabulous photo.

Herons might be my favourite bird. I only started taking interest in these things n the last decade or so, & I can remember every single Heron sighting, probably around 20 of them. They are all over the world, & I've seen them in the UK, Costa Rica, & in mainland Europe. One resides on the Thames, by the towpath, just as few hundred yards from me, (his name is Harry), but he's a bugger to spot.

Amazing birds, fly with such a lazy wing action. Nature at it's finest.

This is a black Heron, also known as the Umbrella Bird.

Herons are mean buggers though.

I showed this clip to Gill & she said "Naughty Heron, that's very naughty, don't do that again".

This is pretty naughty, too.

Heron catches rabbit, then dunks it in a lake to drown it, then swallows it whole. You can almost sense the joy & anticipation on the Heron's face, as he contemplates his rabbit dinner whilst the rqbbit is drowning.

God knows how the Heron flies after eating that. A rabbit with it's fur soaked must weigh more than half as much as the Heron.

Nature is so cruel, but that includes man I guess, as we eat all those lovely sheep, cows pigs & the like. Not usually whilst still alive though.
