I great read Tony, I used to work in that office and I agree there is nothing better than walking around Harrogate on a lovely sunny day and dropping into Bettys for a little light refreshment.

Does Betty do "extras" ? Smiley

lol, yes but dont let Ironside know.

I used to get the train to a lovely little place called Pannal or Harrogate in the mornings and the 20-30 min jiourney was a pleasure and really set me up for a good day, the views from the train on that line are great.

We have a house just on the edge of the park Smiley Its great this time of year, open fields.

Posh place north of Leeds lol made me laugh, loads of places in Leeds alot more expensive now then Harro'gate. Shame I bet you didn't go see Eden Camp

Really? You live adjacent The Stray? Wow! Hope what I've written is reasonably accurate! I blame google......

I must say, I do see Harrogate as "posh". Such lovely buildings, such beautiful parks. Whereas Leeds, well, it has Elland Road just for starters.

Eden Camp?  No, it was a rushed "up & down" affair on Friday. I'm planning to have a short holiday in the next few weeks, I'll be based in Harrogate, & I'll do Eden Camp then. And the North Yorkshire Moors, the Yorkshire Dales. Anywhere else local I should consider?

Yes a lovely home just on the edge of the stray (a nice investment even though there is a slump). It really is a beautiful place Harrogate and a really safe environment.

You should see the queue's at Betty's most days, huge ones all the way down the street. The spa just down the street is worth a visit.

Depending on what you like Ripon/Ripley is worth a look, the Cathedral is free and amazing and its only 20mins North of Harrogate. Just to the side of Ripon is Fountains Abbey (google to see what its like). Helmsley Castle and the village is a good place to walk and see the countryside, 20mins east of Thirsk and near the coastal towns of Scarborough.

Living near all these places is the reason I have virtually stopped playing poker, North Yorkshire so much to see Smiley Hope you enjoy your trip.

I certainly got the imprression Harrogate was "safe" for some reason. A distinct lack of hobbity-hies.

I visited Fountains Abbey some years ago, magnificent. Scarborough, too, is very olde-wold, ditto Whitby.

I might stop playing poker, too, there is so much beauty to be seen in the UK, & just not enough time. Recent poker "events" have sickened me to the pit of my stomach, & I really don't need to waste much more of my life being bombarded with nonsensical trash by those who can't see further than the end of their nose. But I enjoy my Sky "work" so much, & blonde in it's current post-Bash "form" is lovely. A few weeks back I could barely bring myself to open up the Forum. "Poker With A Smile", our motto, got forgotten somewhere, & my house-party got trashed. I admire you for your decision, but I find myself trapped, half-loving it, half-contemptous of some parts of the poker world. But I still adore Live Poker, especiallly with decent Table-Company. (Scowlers need not apply). What to do?

In the last week, my head has got a bit messed up. The Burma death toll is now over 40,000, & part two of that (the dying from disease, dehydration, dysentry) will treble that. The China earthquake, "call it" 50,000. (What's a few thousand deaths between friends?). Set that against those football supporters in Manchester last night, who, because their team lost (would it matter if they won?) decided to smash up Manchester. What is the world coming to? The newspapers don't give a toss about those two terrible tragedies in China & Burma - they are banging on about income tax rates, how terrible it is that petrol is so dear. Yesterday's Daily Star Headline? "Maddie spotted alive & well in Brazil".

I'm being a bit melancholy today.

Knaresborough is a must just to see the viaduct.

That is just gorgeous Maureen, thank you.

How blessed are we to live in such a beautiful land?

Pannal is a little 2 platform station on the Northern Rail franchise. I think it's one of Leeds "commuter" stations, said to have nearly 100,000 psssengers per year using it.

You used to work in that office? Central House, I think? I just got an immediate "buzz" from all that betting action in one place!

Was that a while back? Pre your Wm Hill days I suppose?

Did you ever get to see the view from the first floor? - I'm told you can see an American Military "listening station" over the hills, but I could not see it.

Yes, In about 2001 or 2002 Surrey sports relocated to Harrogate(to later become Skybet). They 'Approached' a group of Hills compilers and staff to set up the callcentre and head up the compilling team. I did footy , NFL, snooker, darts etc etc for about 9 months before I was contacted about a role back at Hills which I took and went back to working in Leeds. We used to have a kinda goldfish bowl glass room in the middle with all the gear you described above, sounds just as I remember it.

Im not sure about the military station, I don't recall seeing it.

Grandad, cleanse yourself, write down just what these poker players have done that has obviously irritated you to the point of even thinking of giving up poker ... you know that writing it down is good for the soul, share it with us.

One day Kev, maybe, one day. And it's not a case of "irritated", a fly on a cows arse is just an irritation, a swish of the tail soon sorts it. It's an attitude thing. We started this Forum to be a friendly & caring place, but the brain-deads are gaining ground fast, & they have the "bad-apple" effect.

Here's an example, which you know to be true.

How many Threads & pages & pages of Posts do we normally get through on the Mods Board in a week, trying to keep blonde "just so" & be right by everyone? 30 Threads?, 500 Posts? Because there is so much aggression, so much conflict, so much "what do you wanna do about it?", "you calling me a liar?" sorta childish shit. There are two threads in there, both still "live", which total 50 pages - that's 750 Posts! Just trying to damp down fires, for God's sake.

And this week, post-Bash, how many new Threads in the Mods Room? One, which I started, to sort a minor weekend matter. How many Posts on the Mods Board since the weekend? About 20, tops. Peace has broken out, & it's lovely.  Anyways, let's not talk about it in here.

Perhaps we should have a Bash every week!

Anyway, this'll cheer you up as much as me.

This pic was taken on "The Stray", and is of TDK 322, a very famous Bus. It has it's own Website, which has some fascinating stiff on it. Go take a look.

Tony, a must. Knaresborough to York on the train, do it during the day as it is mad at peak times. Still the old Semaphore signals,  single line working in parts, http://www.signalbox.org/gallery/ne/knaresborough.htm had the privalage of looking inside this box, amazing it is. then finish off with a trip around the NRM at York.
