Off to Fetlham Tuesday morning, Meetings at 11am & 13.30, finish off my Sky Blogs (I'm almost up to date with them now, praise be) & do the Show in the Evening with Compo. Should be fun......
Thursday I'm playing Online all evening in a "Play the Presenter" Promo, & Friday I do the Show, again with Compo, and with Richard Orford, too.
Saturday & Sunday I'm at The Vic for the APAT Events. I should be there Wednesday, too, but I'm struggling with time, & need to go home & get some clean knickers. There really should be more days in the week.
The tiredness seems to be persisting, but I feel a llttle brighter at last. I really don't know what's been ailing me, but I'm deffo not quite right. And yes, I do mean in the head.

I was thinking about the WSOP Final, due to take place in Vegas in November, today.
It seems to have slipped off the radar, I expected much more "noise", but it's all gone quiet.
Very odd.

how are you gonna pass the AK tony?, his shove of over 14bb tells you that he doesnt have KK/AA so at worst your flipping, but his range is made up of loads of AQ AJ Ax KQ type hands which you are dominating. You have chips back, you can knock a player out. If the river comes a king, it changes to "made a standard call with AK and held vs AQ which put me up to close to 100k and i never looked back" dont be results orientated, its dangerous for your future play.

It was a product of a complete loss of confidence Rick. I've run bad for a while, & now, as a result, I'm playing bad, & I really did not want to make that call!
You are of course completely right. I invented 38 reasons why is was a bad call, to justify it to myself.
The mind works in mysterious ways, it's wonders to perform.

Obv with Tikay that would prove difficult. Very few wins and very little memory.

Thanks Rick.
I'm actually mixing my game up a lot more - a bit too much actually - & really trying to make things happen. But in those big crucial pots, I almost dare not look right now. I think the prob last night was that I had so many chips, & badly wanted to win the thing, & I became over-protective of my stack. I also bottled the call with
on an all-diamond flop, though to be fair, if I'd been first to act, I'd have deffo shoved. But shoving & calling are such different things.
Talking of confidence (in my case lack of it), it reminds me, I was amazed at that play you made in the
DT
D
£500 last week with pocket twos - betting every street against Maria - wow, you have some bottle! I am curious as why you never bet the river, but that apart, that was seriously ballsy play.
Care to talk us through the whole hand? I've been thinking about it ever since, & I just can't believe how strong you played that.
It was nostalgic for me in a way, too. Thewy's first ever Major win - a Main Event at Luton for £30,000+, 4 or 5 years back (he did a bit of business with The Camel, who'd had a great week as I recall) also featured two's. In his case, he paired his 2 kicker on the flop, & called every street, for his entire Tourney eventually, against Eric "The Screw" Barker, & that set him up for his win. He was only beating a bluff - literally - all the way.
I just don't know how you guys know where you are in those spots.

prior to the hand with chilli, i was up to about 23k after flopping a set vs berridge and getting paid off handsomely vs his QQ.
Chilli was a late arrival. Utg+1 limped and i over limped for 100 with 22 and the button limped, maria made it 400 from the bb which looked strong.
we all decided to call.
The flop was A 6 9 rainbow and with 1750 in the pot maria lead out for 600 i believe. My instant read on the situation was that she had QQ/KK/JJ as id expect her to bet more with AK/AQ in this spot into 3 other players. I decided i was going to get her off either on the flop or turn. I raised her 600/700 to 2600.
The other two in the pot departed and the turn was a Queen and she checked, At this point i was almost sure she was checking to fold if i took another shot. Which i did to 5200.
Maria however thought for a few minutes and called. Chilli and I have a lot of history of played pots with her so theres a lot of meta game involved.
When she called, i thought she had a monster, and i was abs done with the hand. I was not going to 3barrel the river as i didnt think she would call the turn bet without minimum AK and with our history didnt think she would pass AK.
The river popped the duece and she checked. I believed that with maria's knowledge of how i play that she is well capable of leading with a set of AA or 99 calling my flop raise and checking to me on the turn and river. If she had me on a bluff then that would be the best way to play the hand, letting me bluff the streets.
The pot at this point was close to 20k and i decided that if i pushed this that the only hand that Maria would definately call with that i am beating is AQ. I dunno if she would have called AK. I had a think and i had 13k chips left and maria had 6k with 20k in the pot and only 6k more to win, i decided that incase she has checked a huge hand to me twice that i would check behind.
If i shoved the river and she called with AK i would be on 39k if i checked the river and she had AK i would be on 33k. If she had a higher set and called my shove i would be on just 7k however if i checked behind i would be on 13k if she had a monster.
6k more chips isnt really that much in level 2 when you have a 33k stack, but it is huge if you have a 7k stack, so i decided to err on the side of caution given that maria knows my game better than most. I know she is capable of letting me hang myself while she is sitting pretty with the nuts.

What a great bit of analysis, particularly the "not bet River" situation.
I guess the key to the hand was the weak lead from Maria Post-Flop - you Pass if she pots it properly? And good to see meta-game in it's true sense is alive & well. I'll now have to ask her why she led out so weakly. The hand just fascinated me, though I do know you two have poker history, & know each others games very well.
Thanks for a great piece of analysis.
