Tony, I've just had a thought about the logs strapped to the sides of those WW2 tanks.
Do you think that they might have been battering rams for knocking doors down or am I going stark raving bonkerser ?

Think they use those logs for traction when the tracks get stuck in mud and just start spinning. Just lay them in front of the tracks so they can bite.

Sounds like a far more sensible theory than mine

No.

Great spot. It drove the 4 of us mad at Duxford. Every tank seemed to have them!
You'll never guess what Karabiner thought they were for.

I bet there were one or two doors bashed in with them, or even a bit of caber-tossing on a quiet night.

I popped into Luton-G this evening at about Midnight, to buy a couple of guys into Saturday's Mini-GUKPT at Coventry.
I never even put my head inside the Cardroom, but word seem to spread that I was there, & a string of players all came out to tell me that they'd had a right party tonight.
A bad-beat, followed by ongoing verbals, allowed to simmer, then proper afters, via a head-butt, blood everywhere, the 2 guys scrapping, pulled apart & ejected. I guess they'll both get a life Ban, which is about 3 months for monkey-business at Luton.
There must have been 3 or 4 scraps at Luton in the last year. I really don't understand. It's not a Pro's venue, just recreational players, & they end up scrapping. Over a game.
The bigger man used to be the one who did not retaliate, who had the ability to turn the other cheek. That's out of fashion now, it seems.
My affection for Live Poker, with it's increasingly attendant aggro, grows ever less.

Multi-purpose Ralph. Bit like a Swiss penknife.
It'll all be recorded in the Tank's Log-Book.

Best not to scrap then. The Bans rarely last long.

i've been vaguely thinking about trying to sat into some TV donkaments and just going completely over the top rude/aggro/swearing/shouting/starting fights 10 times worse than hellmuth/tony g/devilfish/pokerstars dude who used to play a lot of SNGs etc just cos poker sites seem to like giving people who do that lorry loads of money.

It's within the Rules, so it happens, but the revver-uppers get don't get a lot of respect from me. If I need to stoop to those levels to win a hand of poker, I'll swerve it thanks. It's a hobby, a relaxation for me, not a war, or a Millwall-West Ham match.
Most of the so-called trash-talkers have no idea of the psychology involved anyway, & they'd fail O-Level Psychology, & it's just an extension of their personality. most of the circuit trash-talkers from the past few years are skint now.
I'm just not into aggro, Cos. And yes, I know thats an eccentric position these days.

Hurry up then. Poker Sites have a rude awakening coming, sooner than they think.
Some of the bigger Sites are actually well-managed these days, & Wannabe Pros will actually have to show skills & work-rate off the Table, learn to string two sentences together, learm to write, & learn to be on message.

Here you go Ralph. They're called Fascines.
As stated to aid traction but also used to fill in deep trench - like structures to aid in crossing.
