Ever had a nose around the British Pathe archives?

I could (and now I've found them, probably will) spend hours digging around in them.

Here's some train footage to whet your appetite.

For me it's been particularly interesting search today - I found my Great Uncle Harffey in 2 reels.

about 48 seconds in to this one he's presenting Winston Churchill with his Winkle, Monty is there as well - but he's already got one

In the other reel he was doing the same for the Queen in 1953.

Tony, I've just had a thought about the logs strapped to the  sides of those WW2 tanks.

Do you think that they might have been battering rams for knocking doors down or am I going stark raving bonkerser ?

As stated to aid traction but also used to fill in deep trench - like structures to aid in crossing.

I get texts galore from Grosvenor these days, spamming this that & the other. I don't mind - at least they are making an effort.

Talking of aggression in poker Tikay, what's your view on table talk to get someone steemed up?

It's within the Rules, so it happens, but the revver-uppers get don't get a lot of respect from me. If I need to stoop to those levels to win a hand of poker, I'll swerve it thanks. It's a hobby, a relaxation for me, not a war, or a Millwall-West Ham match.

Most of the so-called trash-talkers have no idea of the psychology involved anyway, & they'd fail O-Level Psychology, & it's just an extension of their personality. most of the circuit trash-talkers from the past few years are skint now.

I'm just not into aggro, Cos. And yes, I know thats an eccentric position these days.

I need to correct that, it was noit quite what I meant to say.

Really, I was trying to make the point that we don't need to seek out aggro in life, it finds us easily enough. (Try help with running a poker Forum, for starters).

The world is full of aggro, in business, life, politics, religiion, everything. I've spent my entire life trying to avoid it, trying to defuse it where it enters my little world.

I took up poker because it's a fun game, a relaxation. And now folks speculate on how useful it might be to deliberately wind folks up. We saw that last night, in Luton. Two geezers go out for a game of poker, & it ends up in head-butts, blood & snot everywhere, & the Ban-Stick. Marvellous.

If that's how folks want to enjoy themselves, leave me out.

So that's my view on aggro-talk at the poker table. I leave it to those who set out in life to seek out, & cause aggro. Personally, I pity them, there's enough aggro without manufacturing more, but I do accept that we are all different.

Off to DTD shortly, for the APAT World Amateur Championships.

Diary clashes have kept me away from APAT for a goodly while, & my last APAT - at Walsall,a good time back - was "less than satisfactory", with alcohol-related nonsense, & related consequences which continue to affect me to this day, & forward.

APAT did the right thing afterwards, & now the line has been drawn, & the next 4 days should see a lot of folks have a wonderful time, with no Reg-Fees, & relatively speaking, serious added value. And DTD always maintain "good order" anyway.

I'm there today & tomorrow, then on Saturday I go to London to do the Show, then straight back up on Sunday, wearing both In-Poker & APAT hats.

I'm really looking forward to hooking up with the APAT-ers again, though, because of my enforced (work-related) absence, I'm a little nervous as to how they now see me. The stayaway Chairman always needs to tread carefully when he re-emerges.

We shall see.

I have to say, as to such part I may have played in APAT's story, I'm immensely proud of APAT. It's been a truly wondeful thing for "regular" poker players. We still do everything Reg-Fee free, give them the best structures we can, &, above all, added-value every time. Has to be on the CV.
