Book purchases at Gatters;

1) "The Alastair Campbell Diaries, Vol 1, Prelude to Power".

2) "Too Big to Fail". (The fall of Lehman Bros, with all that caused & followed that spectacular implosion).

3) "Googled. The end of the world as we know it".

Meanwhile, read a few bits of the Freddie Foreman book, & they were achingly hilarious.

He tells of setting up an "Insurance Company", The "Bookmakers Guardian Society". Then, any high-street bookie that paid out 4 places, thus squeezing the smaller bookies, had to pay a penalty, a sort of extra premium. Failing which, one of Freddie's assistants would pour a can of petrol through the letterbox & set fire to the place.

Business was brisk, apparently, & quadrupled after 5 or 6 bookies had to pay the "excess premium".

Glad you got there safely

Some questions for when you settle in

How has Vegas changed in the year you have been away? (landscape etc)

What about the Rio. Are they catering for the media any better?

Where are you staying? As a man of hotel experience, how to Vegas hotels do things well or badly?

Oh and twitter updates on any blondes you see playing the main much appreciated.

Read that, fascinating stuff as much for the character of the man as well as the inside workings of Nu Labour.

Will reply tomorrow, Tighty, too tired to do them justice right now, but if impatient, read Jeeves Posts, he seems to have the inside line.

The Twitter Updates on any blondes? - yes, of course, you got it.

It's a bit of a soft morning here in old Blighty Tone, but still quite warm.

I'm diddling about between your diary and Radio 4, (I've decided Radio 4 deserves an upper case R) while downing my Chivers thick-cut & tea.

Radio 4 MUST have an upper-case "R" Tom. Ditto Radio 3. As the target audience is the under nines, it does not apply to radio 1.

I love the expression "soft morning". Grandad Angell used that when it was gently raining.

Your first task Twitter wise could be Sam Trickett in the $25k tikay. 4/20 left with $1.3m up top, assuming he is in when you make it there tomorrow

Good thinking!

I get my Media Pass in the morning, so yes, I may well do that, maybe follow Flushy too. I have to go to the Airport with Attila to meet & collect Team Sky Poker inbound, mid-afternoon, but that apart, I'm free tomorrow. I'm not convinced that Attila would be best pleased if I miss the Airport run.

Finished the Chris Evans book on the 'plane. It went a bit flat towards the end.

He tells of the purchase of Virgin Radio, all very odd, he just seemed to buy it on a whim. He stuck up his entire capital, £2 million, got VC's to stick in £65 mill, & tyheen begged Wooly Jumper to retain £23mill worth of stock, so as to reach the £90 million price. He said Wooly Jumper begged him to make sure he coud afford it, & was very caring towards Mr Ginger. He clearly has Wooly down as a decent sort, & was very sychophantic about him, seeing him as almost regal. Quite so.

Either way, Evans is clearly in good shape now, owning about NINE Ferraris!

He's likeable, a bit of a head-case, but a good man I think. Evans, I mean.

"Volume 2" is diue out end of September, & he has a Website promoting it.

It includes an extract of how he came to buy one of those Ferraris in quite bizarre style. (The LOWER" of the two Vids). It's here....

http://www.chrisevansbook.co.uk/

Unless the colour on my Lappie has failed, Ginger Chris is now Grey Chris, too.

Either your lappy is failing or your eyesight Wink  Gingers don't go grey, they go white - I better add a 'generally' to this actually, or some pedantic so 'n so will try and prove me wrong. The pigmentation just seems to run out and you slowly lose the red, very odd and most annoying.

Anyway, take care and even though I know you will I'll say it anyway, enjoy yourself.

Thanks Jane. Check out the Vid, then - white, grey, whatever, he does not look very "ginger" to me any more. Amazingly, he's 44 now.

I have not got round to replying to your PM yet, or many others, there's a bit of a backlog, but I will, just need to do a bit of a catch up sess.

I will try and take a look at the Chris Evans book,I loved the fact he risked the lot to try and get the world and it paid off for him.I used to read quite a lot but just when I went to bed until falling asleep but now I just watch programmes on the laptop until falling asleep.I mostly only read biographies;I'd say the best one I read was probably Frank Skinner's,are you a fan ? It's such a funny book but also really interesting,or at least it was to me.Gazza's book is also right up there,he's had such a crazy life from being really young it's not surprising really that he's a bit nuts.

I would tweet you but am not a twitterer sorry, but gogogogo Julian in the main and glgl all other blondes getting 2nd.

an amusing tweet from vicky coren

Tip for visitors to America: if anyone offers to heat up your cinnamon roll, say no. It's really unpleasant. (This is NOT a metaphor.)

The Ceasars cardroom was packed, they had 4 Tourneys on the go, I think, & 17 Cash Tables running, but not a single Omaha cash game running, sadly, so I swerrved the cash.

The Venetian normally has a table or 2...if you get time to play that is
