well i played a few HUSNGs on sky and by the time the table appeared on my screen the other guy had usually been stealing my blinds for a minute or two. kinda puts one off innit
Not wishing to bring contention into the debate, but I've never believed that line, ever ever ever.

I see "ooh, the players are ALL complete & utter donks & fish, easy-peasy, I could rinse the lot of them, but I can't be bothered because the software is crap, so I'll carry on having to be staked with other peoples money so I can play against much tougher players" every day, somewhere. Not just about SP, but about all sorts of sites, It's part of poker folklore, like the Laddies River, or whatever. Poker players are not that daft, surely nobody swallows that nonsense?

They can win enough each week to live a balla life with no effort or stress, but prefer not to because the software is not to their liking? RAISE!

The terrible software is the exact reason I didnt start playing semi regularly on Sky Poker.  I cashed in SPT Glasgow and, having seen the players, decided I would add their tourneys into my daily schedule despite the structure.  The 1st day I tried this I regged for around 8 tourneys, mostly £10-£20 turbos, 6 of them opened fine, 1 of them didnt open until the tourney had been running for over an hour and when it opened I had 4bbs left.  The final one opened around 20 mins after it had started and even then I was down to 15bbs already.  When talking to support they said it was my fault for not checking they had opened(amongst the 30 other MTTs I played that day that all opened normally) and that my laptop mustve been the problem and not their site.  However they did give me a refund on the tourney that opened 1 hour later(£10) as a "goodwill gesture".

A few days later I was playing £60 HU SNGs against, at a guess, one of the regs.  We played about 4 or 5 of them in a row clicking rematch after each one and things were going fine, and then on the 6th or 7th match I click on rematch and the game wont open for me, when I try to open it myself it says Im already there, I restart still cant get in.  By the time I get onto support the other guy has won the SNG by stealing my blinds, again I was told this must be a fault at my end because the other guy was able to connect and that I could not be refunded because Id already had a "goodwill gesture" refund.

So I think that the software does put a lot of people off despite the ability of the players on the site, I play on other sites with terrible software and have never had to worry about 1 of my MTTs just not opening up

Today, as an example, I'll be active across as many Poker Forums as I can, as tonight SP have their £220 Monthly Tourney on, so I need to raise awareness. The Tourney is simulcast live on Sky Sports, & will be analysed on TV by a most eminent Analyst. So I send the message "you can be on TV tonight" da de da, & I get that message on various poker forums, as well as all the usual social media platforms - FB, Twitter, etc.

There, you asked, & off I went. And I squeezed in a spam for tonight's big Tourney. George2Loose played it last month, was featured on TV, & very well he did, too.
He wasnt MickJenn was he??  GRRRRRRRRRRRRR  Tongue

Lol, no, it was not Dear Mick. Mick gets a little "hot" sometimes, so has limited chat ability. Good guy, really, who bluffs for England though.

No, the fella in question was George2Loose, who came a cropper to some young gun who 4 bet him with complete air, on Live telly, too. Shocking behaviour, imo.

I'll reply to the rest separately.

The delays you mention WERE a big problem, no question. The issue, however, was solved completely when they Optimised the Site. (The new Client is even faster). Faor cop, no denying that, but that was then, this is now.

Remind me early next week via e-Mail, & I'll sort something out for you.

What have I forgotten, & what should not be in that list? Are they all "net positives"?

If you classify them as "inventions":

Utilisation of electricity

Nuclear power/bombs

And you'd remove what two, to make room for them?

I'd be interested in the best description of the difference between a discovery, & an invention, too.

I'd say that you discover something that already exists and invent something that doesn't.

Hmm,I just had a look to see if there was any sats to tonight's £220 jobbie and I'm a bit confused to see there's a sat running on Nov 3rd with the following Description "This is a semi-final into the £8k Sky Sports Double Stack at 8pm on the 28th October. The final is limited to 50 players only and will be televised on Sky Sports 2. (1 player in 5 will win a seat) 4000 chips and 12 minute blinds!"

I take it there isn't any Sats on the day of the comp then ?

Have a word tikay   Wink

I had a word.

There is one at 5.30pm this afternoon. It's at the very top of the Satellite Lobby, Highlighted especially for you.

Good Luck man - what could be more cool than me on Live TV commentating on you (Or Boba...) winning it?

Everything always existed, surely? We just never found it.

In my youth, letters & stuff were what made our world work. Send a letter by Post, wait a week, get a reply. Now it's all so different, & "hard" Post is almost all spam.

I spent the whole of yesterday fielding e-Mails & stuff. Online.

Then from 7pm until Midnight playing poker. Online.

I started work at 6am today, online.

I paid my water rates this morning to STW (Gloucester). Online.

I booked a Hotel Room (Heathrow) online.

I purchased some theatre tickets (London) online.

I organised a wreath (Glasgow) online.

I checked my Bank Balance. Online.

Renewed my car insurance. Online

I sent an invoice to SP (Glasgow) online.

I work for a Company which is in Leeds. Online.

The Company ( & many, many others) does nothing BUT Online.

I am paid Online.

Has any invention in the last 200 years changed life as much as the Internet has?

What would the Ten Things that have most changed our life be?

The motor car engine, I suppose.

Radio & TV, almost certainly.

Telephones, deffo.

Internet.

Better (?) education.

Supermarkets

The Welfare State

Freedom of Movement for most nationalities within Europe, thus cross-migration.

The Airline Industry

NHS

What have I forgotten, & what should not be in that list? Are they all "net positives"?

The mapping of the human genome is going to have a huge impact, even bigger than supermarkets.

The first one took 10 years, now they're doing one a day until they have a thousand for comparison purposes.

According to Radio 4, we each have around 2000 genes from each parent, of these, an average of 200/300 are defective

In most cases, if we inherit a gammy gene from one parent, we can substitute a good one from the other parent.

Tom makes a fair point about the human genome, though I'd say that was a sub-species of something else, the discovery of DNA, which I had thought about putting in the ten. But yes, let's drop Supermarkets, maybe a touch frivolous.

As to sub-species, & under "Internet", Facebook, for all that so many of us struggle with it, & it's concept, the numbers of people who use it is mind-boggling, a significant % of the world's population, I gather. Business is onto it now, too, in a big way, & many businesses, SP included, have a whole Social Media Department. How extraordinary.

It must truly be the greatest time-sponge ever invented, even worse than Gameboys, XBoxes & the like.

Lol, trust you.

It might be prizes, Dear......

It's part of what I do, next door. Give away things. Tourney entries, SPT Seats, Theatre Tickets, various Freebies, even nights of poker mentoring with me. (Hush).

The best part of giving away stuff - & I give away loads - is poor Des's face when I do.
