occasionally in the past i've caught a few minutes of sky poker and it's always been "raise to see where you are/define your hand/protect your hand" I thought you guys did it because it increases the money in the pot and therefore increases your rake.

You had position on me. If you flat it puts me in an awkward spot .

By raising you are pretty much commiting to the hand and the other people in the pot would not be getting

their chips in behind to Q9.

Out of the three options I thought fold was definatley the worst one. If your calling with Q9 what do you want to hit ?

I would rather hit the 9 than the Q as long as it was a raggy board.

Out of position their may be a case for raising to 'see where you are' but being on the button i'm sure the optimum play

is a call.

Wrote the below for work today, thought I'd post it here seeing as it's relevant.

Piracy Wave on The Atlantic

Following the launch of Sky’s new Atlantic offering, television experts are anticipating an increase in illegal viewing of its key products which include Boardwalk Empire and Blue Blood.

The glossy new satellite channel is airing some of America’s top drama series and broadcast analysts predict that new illicit ways of accessing this in-demand content, whilst foregoing the need to pay at least £20 a month to subscribe to Sky, will multiply quickly.

It is thought that large numbers of the younger audience, who are less willing than most non Sky subscription viewers to wait for DVD releases, will look to unofficial websites to watch live and catch up streams of their favourite content. In turn, this is likely to create an increased demand for TV on the internet, bringing new and cheaper ways to watch content into the mainstream.

Most consumers will still watch these shows on TV due to its higher quality, and TV viewing overall is actually increasing. However the consumption of content illegally is still harming the industry and needs to be controlled to ensure shows like these can be made in the future.

An innocuous sounding phrase. Any ideas how? Half the posts in the TV/film threads on here talk about downloading stuff illegally and no-one bats an eyelid. Not that the industry does themselves any favours usually. Heavy-handed threats and poor attempts at consumer attitude adjustment. Although I have watched a couple of blurays recently that thanked me for not being a pirate, which I thought made a nice change Smiley.

Many do, me included, but we can only swim against the tide for so long, & now I just stay schtum most of the time. Fascinating to see the mindset, in fact.

Tbh I wrote the article with a completely different opinion at the end but one of our clients is an anti piracy company so I had to change it so as not to piss them off and keep them sweet basically.

I actually think that piracy is as bad for tv as it is good.

Sicilian used own a video/dvd shop. Fairly sure he was against piracy etc for business reasons. Now he has closed his business he is now posting on the movie thread that he downloaded this film, and downloaded that film.

Shocking behaviour.

I thought the article was perfectly fit for purpose, very good, & quite revealing.

It's strange to see forum regulars wearing their work hats, & being so different.

Sadly for most, I wear my work hat too often, & everyone has to be bored to tears by my "work" stories non-stop. Got some really interesting ones tonight, but I'm trying very hard to resist Posting them.

Dunno about Dean, he's a Client, so can do what he likes.....but theft & fraud is almost accepted these days as the norm, & it saddens me to see it so accepted. It's not accepted when it's against us as individuals, of course, oh no. That's different, obv.

He is a client, but people downloading = less people going into his shop to rent dvds/videos = less busines for him = gg video shop

I am being nice to him, I'm training, in readiness for when he binks his VLV Package.

He is a legend, I love his spangly shirts & monster pecs.*

Do the kids still call them "pecs" these days? Good grief, it's been nearly 50 years since I was a gym regular. Had a remarkably beneficial effect on me though - helped me stop stammering. Go figure.

Piracy of TV programmes has achieved one thing. Remember how we had to wait at least 6 months to see any good US TV shows? Or we'd get to love one on the BBC like 24, then Sky buys it up and it's gg anyone who doesn't have Sky.

Piracy means we can't get messed about with by the TV companies as much. People watching online was the single reason why the gap for 24 being shown here came down from 6 months to 3 months to 24 hours. The BBC tried to make people wait six months for the latest Mad Men but had to bring it forward.

If I was able to pay to watch Mad Men within 24 hours of it being shown, via the internet, in HD, I would. But I can't, so I download it for nothing.

How long do the VLV sats run for ? link to details plz.

https://www.skypoker.com/secure/poker/sky_lobby/poker-promotions/viva-las-vegas?tracking=pokerpmain

There is one "Grand Final" at the end of each month, we had the January one already, still to come are the Feb, March, April, & May Finals.

We awarded two packages in the January Final, one went to a guy who got in for £2.85!

I get really annoyed with the DVDs that have a warning at the start, I always end up thinking if I'd have downloaded it illegally I wouldn't have to put up with being called a thief and could just watch what I paid to watch...

It also winds up the pedant in me as copyright infringement is copyright infringement and isn't actually theft.
