Congrats to Ryan Spittles, aka Scotty77, who did his first "solo" Analyst gig on Sky Poker last night, & did very well, I gather, dispensing some grand hand analysis. He still has to work on his TV "technique", but that'll come in time.

He has tonight's Show, too, 9pm, Ch 865, good luck Mr S.

Yet to see a good photo of him though, this is as good as it gets. This photo taken on the Walsall GUKPT Final Table, which Ryan won't recall with much fondness, but it was all part of his learning experience, & he'll go on from here, trust me.

Are you and Tom playing the DTD £150 today Tony?

No Ralph, sorry.

I just spoke to Tom, who has taken Mrs Red out for Dinner, exactly as he did previously, in 2008, then he plans to play a Tourney on Laddies @ 3pm, €190 jobbie with a 15 minute clock, I believe. As he let me down with the Staking yesterday, I fully expect him to win the Laddies affair.

Mrs Red can eat two taters more than a pig. Cost me a bloody fortune she did. (Well she would have if it hadn't been £3.75 all you can eat).

The Laddies tourney, Goddammit, isn't running for some reason. I think it's because they have a €200k guaranteed at 7pm.

Hatching plan B....

Hi Tony,

Yes still working the golf in running tho I have got stuck into the footy much more this season which strangely had a bad affect on my NFL stuff, not been a good season so far. I just don't seem to have the feel for it this season, maybe concentrating on the footy more at the weekends took the edge of the NFL.

That is a lovely picture of the tenth at the Belfry, I have a question for you about it. I think the story used to be that only two people had driven the green from the tee( this is in the days before advanced golf technology and front tee boxes made it easily reachable to the pro's), do you remember who they were and if my memory serves me isn't there/was there a plaque on the hole that celebrates one of them doing this?

You got me beat there, Phil, The Belfry has only been there 30 or 40 years if memory serves correct, & that was news to me.  I am aware of the plaque on the 18th fairway (Christy O'Connor hit it dead to seal the Ryder Cup in '89), so I had to get some help from google, & you are correct, the answer is Seve, see.....

http://www.thebelfry.co.uk/index.cfm/section/info/display/6/content/64/brabazoncourseguide.htm (click "TENTH HOLE)

The Brabazon is often known as a "2 hole Course" (10th & 18th) but every hole was too hard for me, I'm afraid.

Incidentally, on my "to read" list of books is Seve's Bio, which looks a good read, though he was, despite being THE most amazing guy to watch, real car-crash golf, a somewhat self-centred & "unbalanced" chap, very inward looking.

No idea who the other player was - you'll have to tell me.

However, Seve's drive was off the back tees, the very back ones, & I always played off the very front ones, (Ladies Tees!) from where it was very driveable, assuming reasonable competence. Which I lacked.....

Before I move on from Phil, & The Belfry.....

You may not be aware, Phil, but I had a bit of a disaster on Xmas Day 2010, & my house was almost completely wrecked by a flood, but I got very lucky, & almost all my books & paintings were saved.

I'm gradually transferring both the books & the paintings to my other place in London, so far I've taken about 12 paintings down, which includes this one. In fact, it's a framed photo, I think, & my shitty camera skills do not do it justice, but it is one of my favourite pictures, as it evokes such wonderful memories of my golf days.

PS - You can see why I need a new camera now, eh?

One more dreadful photo of a golf painting from home - this is the Road Hole @St Andrews. In fact, I never realised until recently how many paintings I have - 50 or 60, it seems. Must be worth the fat end of £100 the lot.....

If Carlsberg made car adverts, they'd have made this. Superb!

Worst sporting memory: I don't know if I had one as a cricketer. As a golfer, it's driving the 10th at the Belfry and then three-putting.

Sorry Matt, wrong Diary, art goes next door, with dead bonfires, & peanuts.

I thought you mentioned having a painting at home a few posts back..

Correct. Not to be confused with art.

Good find Geo!

It's a bugger of a green to putt on, to be fair, it breaks every which way. I think I laid up once, popped it over the water onto the back of the green, then putted back towards the hole, overhit it, & my putt landed in the pond.....agreeing where the drop should be taken was a bit of a mare, too, as the next group were waiting on the other side of the water.

Jeez, I was so shite at golf.

Those "paintings" look more like prints to my eye anyhow so the point would appear to be moot.

Prints, photos, schmotos, they all get listed on the inventory as paintings Ralph. It's obvious, I hang them on the wall, therefore they are paintings.
