Lol. What an amazing hand.

Last night with 31 players remaining from 460 in the Laddies 20k, three of the biggest stacks are sb, bb, and utg.

Utg limps, sb makes up, and bb (Me) checks with

Flop

By the river, it's all in the middle.

sb has

utg has

As a fellow Warren Buffett fan, you might want to pick up some shares in Tesco next week, the very definition of "a great company at a good price" right now after the shares dropped 20% last week due to a profit warning. There was also a full page article in the Times today about how the tide may have turned against Tesco and they'll now be in terminal decline. I reckon Mr Market is a bit off with this one, dunno when the bottom will be but with the dividend yield at 5% already I don't think money has ever been this cheap. NB. I bought a lot of these shares yesterday.

Great minds think alike Mr K, though I was unaware you wre a Member of the Sage of Omaha's fan club.

With a 5% yield, & very little long-term downside, it's a terrific buying opportunity. "Cheap money" sums it up. I doubt they have ever experienced such a sharp fall. Over-reactionaments.

The share price of any company can go up & down depending upon the mood of the market - but it has no bearing, or correlation upon, the intrinsic value of the Company.

Tesco is exactly the same company it was a week ago. It's shares are nearly 20% cheaper though. They were either over valued before, or are under valued now. That's the bet.

As you very likely know, Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway already owns a hefty chunk of Tesco shares, over 3% of the issued stock last time I heard.

Every little helps.

Quite by chance, I discovered the home of Sir Christopher Wren today, barely half a mile from my new posh place in Hampton.

If you scroll to the foot of his Wiki Page, it lists (with photos) some of the stuff Wren was associated with, 30 or 40 examples. How on earth did those guys, back in the day, nearly 300 years ago, achieve so much? No automation, no transport, no CAD. It's too much to even begin to comprehend. And what appreciation of scale he had!

I have been very lucky in my career in terms of some of the jobs I have luck boxed my way onto!

When British Land redeveloped Plantation House (to the imaginatively renamed Plantation Place), we were appointed as Party Wall surveyors. It meant that we had to survey St Margaret Patterns Church. Not being religious, it initially didn't do much for me. When I found out it was Wren designed and grade 1 listed I was a little more interested!

What a wonderful building. Once completed, we were taken up the bell tower (this isn't an option open to most people in the world), and given the splendid views across the city. It is almost as high as "The Monument" across the road. One of my top 5 surveys that's for sure!

Exciting times this weekend in Kings Lynn, of all places, when the famous (?) "Campbells Tower" will be demolished with explosive charges. (Our friends Tesco have purchased the site).

In a peculiar twist, they ran a competition in Kings Lynn, the winning entry being the person who will get to press the button to bring the thing crashing down.

The winner was a middle-aged lady, who has a particular reason to want the tower gone - her father was killed there in a dreadful factory accident there back in the early 90's.

She was interviewed on the wireless this week, & said the tower reminded her of her Dad every day, & she could see it from all over Kings Lynn.

All a bit sad, & odd.

Interesting that on the countdown the guy said "five." I remember Dick Strawbridge on a programme mentioning that on countdowns they would pause and not actually say "five" and then continue at 4. The reason he gave was to avoid "five" being misheard as "fire" and the charge being set off too early.

I love the flock of pigeons that are flying towards the tower and then do a U turn.

Was my first though too. A couple of years ago they demolished a couple of tower blocks near us. Due to their being so many birds having made the tower blocks their home, there was a small dummy charge set off about 10 seconds before the main charge, this made the birds fly away from the block.
