There is another FB site where a guy from around the area I grew up is encouranging to send him pictures of days gone by from the area. I sent him a couple of school pics recently received from one of my aunties that I didn't even know had existed (the photo not the aunty.) I have already been contacted by 5 of those from the pic that I had never been in contact with since finishing primary in 1973.

Also, is it just me or does it take other people longer to make a post itt compared to any other, any other thread I post in it's always instant but when I post on here it takes at least a few seconds to post it sometimes takes quite awhile ? Doesn't happen all the time but quite regularly.

BTW +1 to this, any reason or is it cos I is Scottish?

Will you translate for me please ? When I say stuff like prick though, feel free to change it to something clever and less offensive, kthxbye.

'He's almost an institution these days, right up there with Stephen Fry.'

I don't know if that was off the top of your head Tony or if you had seen the same discussion I saw on some TV channel yesterday. There was a poll to decide which celebrity the general public thought would make a good Prime Minister, Stephen Fry was the clear number one but the main point of discussion was how nobody voted Ian Hislop on to the list instead of some of those on it.

1. Stephen Fry - 21.1%
2. Jeremy Clarkson - 13.0%
3. Joanna Lumley - 8.6%
4. Alan Sugar - 6.5%
5. JK Rowling - 5.2%
6. Simon Cowell - 4.8%
7. Hugh Grant - 4.1%
8. Trevor McDonald - 3.5%
9. Adele - 3.3%
10. David Beckham - 3.3%

Wot no Ian Hislop?

I did have  a bit of a chuckle when the Mrs said 'Well I can see why Hugh Grant is on the list, he was Prime Minister in Love Actually'

I weep for society.

Aye, was a height thing partly I think - and the grin (pretty everpresent when I've seen Geo).

From the clue about within grabbing/skelping distance from the Head, I'll now say middle row, far left beside the Head.

Not playing too much tbh teeks, seems a wise move while running bad, and doing a lot of mentoring for Badbeat. I really enjoy it, seem far better at correcting others' mistakes than my own, altho maybe I've passed on some run bad coz my group is down swinging even tho they're playing pretty well. One of my guys lost a hand, called a raise with AJT9ds on the button, flopped top two and the nfd and turned an up and down (when he just called a c-bet) and asked if it was wrong to raise the turn bet allin and what he shoulda done diff! Think even u would take a gamble there?!

I tuned into 865, thought Stu was really, really good, he has the right ix of natural enthusiasm and patience to explain the simple (to him) things that must be perfect for u guys. Think he works as a maths tutor privately (maybe not any more) but that must help explaining basics to those that don't get what is simple to u.

Which celebs would u think would make a good PM, pretty tough to come up with any answer to that question I would think, tho wondered if u count as a celeb? Ok, I'd take Clarkson then...

Hislop for PM.

Apparently he made a bit of a boo boo at the Leveson inquiry, saying that Fred the Shred was having an affair with a female board member which is why he had a super injunction....she wasn't a board member, and in fact there was only one female board member at that time, and so the implication is that she was the one who was having the secret bunk up. Could have been another day in court for Hislop, tho I presume they get parliamentry privalege to say whatever they want in this? Must be so tempting for some of them not to just come out with some outrageous accusation if that is the case against the people in the Press they feel have wronged them

well, he does certainly not have Parliamentary Privilege (since he's not a member of the Commons or Lords) --> this is what allowed MPs to name Goodwin or Ryan Giggs in parliament in the first place btw.

This parliamentary privilege is often called absolute privilege since it provides an absolute defense to defamation suits in court - absolute meaning that there can be no investigation as to whether the words used were defamatory whatsoever --> this effectively means that the MP who named Fred the Shed as having an affair could have done so knowing that this was untrue and done so solely to harm Fred's reputation, but it doesn't matter, because he's an MP. This absolute privilege doesn't just extend to MPs of course (although it's an oft given example), it also extends to the reporting of legal procedings (so if it's mentioned in open court, the stenographer/court reporter is protected when making an accurate record of proceedings. Incidentally, solicitor-client communication also has this absolute privilege, but not much else does - so if you want to tell someone to see you next Tuesday, make sure you tell them whilst speaking to your brief Wink

The question then becomes, does another type of privilege cover Mr Hislop's remarks? Well, qualified privilege does exist - it differs because the words have to be 'fair and accurate' and the report cannot be embellished with circumstancial evidence and nor can it be unnecessarily widely spread. If you, I and Tikay all own a company, and you suspect I'm having an affair, you can tell Tikay (and there is a privilege) but you can't tell my wife.

In the interests of 'responsible journalism', there's recently been a move to provide the mass media with a type of qualified privilege as well - but this can't seem to cover Mr Hislop's remarks because if it's NOT true, then he can hardly be called responsible for naming a female board member when there was only one.

Two conclusions I can draw, since I know that Hislop wouldn't make that remark if he thought he'd be sued for it (and lose):

1. The absolute privilege is extended to such parliamentary proceedings as the Levenson Inquiry and to non-parliamentarians and I didn't know that previously, or
2. Mr Hislop's allegation is indeed fact -- because truth is the ultimate defense to defamation suits!

Because being sued isn't nice... read on for the legal stuff

NB: There are further options, this isn't exhaustive, nothing here should be construed as being a confirmation of Mr Hislop's statement and this forum post attracts a qualified privilege by means of being the honest and fair reporting and analysis of a parliamentary proceeding.
