Pardon me if I make a rare exception & briefly mention, umm, poker. It's not normal on this Diary, but the last remaining vestiges of the audience on Tom's Diary are now homeless, looking for something to read, as Tom's Diary has drifted from skid marks into that one subject which makes so much noise, but only a very few can be arsed to read - religion. He'll be doing football next, as he scrambles for readers. So, a window of opportunity for me.

Went to Luton last night for the £100, sadly, the £5,000 overlay was missed by a whopping £1,600. Whoop if you like, but overlay is not the value you think it is, & it will end in tears.

I was trundling along nicely, then this weird hand went off.

Me - I raised up round the back on a 6 handed table with  and get one customer, who pretty much calls any bet.

Flop -

Nice.

Check call.

I liked the turn.....

I bet now, he pops it up, I just dwell flat, theatrically. Got him.

River, bugger, not sure I like this so much.....

I bet, now he snap jams!

Now I really don't like this so much now. He just flatted my pre-flop rsise, so 10-10 is out, 4-4 maybe? More likely, surely, a big ace, A-K, A-Q maybe, though that would mean the case ace just rivered. Anyway, there was 22,000 in the middle at 100-200, & I now only had 7,000 behind, & eventually I called, he can have lots of hands I beat here, though I have a feeling it is a shocking call. He can't possibly have A-J, of course.

He had A-J. I am so bad.

Re-entered, & cruised to the Final. I opened with A-Q, Chandra jams for sixty trillion, I look him up, as his range here is massive, & I only have 22 bigs. He flips 2 red nines. Flop A-Q-9, off to the DC game we go.

The DC was a pretty bad table to play, no value at all, none whatsoever, but I so love playing it, so I pulled up £500 & decided to indulge for an hour.

It as £2 £2, & almost the first hand I played, (6 card hi-lo) I flopped a Royal, (& rivered a redundant house!) holding  on a flop of

I played it stunningly well, & collected a pot of exactly £8, of which £2 was my blind.

I dribbled off about £100 then, just playing real bad & loose, I just fancied splashing around for an hour.

Then it happened, & "the hand" occurred.

We are playing 6 card Hi-Li, & I flop the nuts (flop 7-8-10) with extensions, & A-4 for a bad low draw. I bet out & got 2 callers, one of whom (Jim, aka 77Dave) had the nut flush draw.

The turn comes a 3, & the river a real absolute miracle 2, (no hearts, wiiii), to give me nut-nut. Nice.

There is a few hundred in the middle by now, still 3 way, & I am determined not to lose my customers.

I bet, I think, £120, Jim flats the £120, now Simon wants to take off, & pots it!

I don't do any theatricals, I just snap him off & call al-in. Lovely.

But now Jim goes in the tank, he looks like he is hating life. Jim really understands Hi-Lo, & I respect his game, but I knew he was not liking life here. He asks to see exactly what is in the pot (it is PL), I think there was about a grand in by now, & after a very long tank, sigh calls.

I say "nut nut", Simon declares nut low, & so does Jim - all three of us held A-4, on a turn & river of 2-3!

MBN to be me, & I scoop the high, & chop the low 3 ways.

So, an evenings Luton fun, & a little profit, despite the fact I played pretty badly in the DC.

OK, no more talk of poker. I promise.

I watched a replay on 865 last night with Mr Rutter and thought he was very very good. I don't normally rate analysers (sp?) but thought this young man was amongst the best I've listened to.

Geo

Thanks Geo, I will pass that on.

He is a splendid young man, & he articulates his thoughts so well. His baby Bro, Tom, has just qualified as a Doctor, you know. Proper Doctor, healing the sick & all that. His first Posting is at Lincoln A & E, which sounds a bit odd, I can barely imagine an accident in Lincoln, they just grow potatoes & parsnips out there, & play the ukelele.

Stu's next Show will have as Guests Paul Jackson & Karl Tall Bloke Mahrenholz. Not bad for an Encore, eh?

Think I might start a table between yourself, Tom, Kinboshi and Andrew to determine who creates the most groanage.

Tom will win that by a landslide, he's so bad.

Anyway, I had to slip that Encore spam in, as Greeky had a bad day yesterday, with all that "job or no job" counselling by all us "experts", the fella must have been dizzy by the time he read it all.

I pick up half a dozen new Twitter followers every day, & I really need to get back to the Tweeting thing, it really does have some marketing muscle if the Tweet balance between spam & general interest is maintained.

Today, one of my new followers was "SCARSINMYEYES". Their profile read.....

Starting a new Charity to stop Drunken fools smashing glasses in peoples faces so if anyone can help Hola!

Say what?

I see Mr Channing is itt.

Neil, your take, please, on the current "contributed Rake" debate please.

You may mention BBP a maximum of 3 times, absolute tops. Seems fair to me. 7,000 words max.

Absolutely hated this hand from start to finish. The 2 of the river stopped me from getting 1/2 of the pot but i still had the A4 for nut low. It was Alan in the pot with us and I'm just glad that i managed to 3/4 him in the side pot to make all of my river call money back. With the way the hand went I'm happy at losing only just over a £100 in the pot all told. Dealers always love splitting pots into 1/6s esp after doing 3/4 in the side pot.

I loved it. The feedback, comments and questions are the best thing about these diaries.

Sometimes I enjoy writing but not as much as some other diary'ers here. I just like the interaction in all its forms.

Joking aside, people only read my diary to see what Tony has posted on there.
