So why no second Omaha table?
No idea, Jason, maybe they do. I just know I've tried to get a game there 6 or 7 times, & have yet to get a seat once. I'm not sure I'll ever get the hang of that place, as hard as I have tried. But I'm buggered if I am going to stand by that counter for 4 hours whilst all the locals seem to find a seat & I get ignored. It's fair, up to a point, to look after the regulars, of course, it's just hard to become a regular!

So why no second Omaha table?
You generally need around fifteen on the list to start a second table Jase as if you start it too early you end up with two short-handed tables and one of them becomes a "must-move" and it just becomes a little messy.

Fair point, there speaks the voice of experience.

Yeah pretty valid points. They used to have this problem in Hull because 10 regs all wanted to play DC. Best solution that was suggested was to play ten handed and once you had played the button you sat out the next two hands which although not ideal it was welcomed by the players (especially the smokers of which most of the DC players are).

Confirmed greatest party of all time the day an African nation wins the world cup. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
Well I'm not sure about the party, I'll swerve that if I may, but yes, it will happen sooner than most think, maybe even in my lifetime. How great would that be, from being owned (the slavery ties...) to them owning us?
Good to see you at DTD on Saturday. Just how good is that place? I may return this weekend, for the - please don't laugh - 6 max.
Whilst on this week's DTD 6 Max, name the connection between 6 max poker & this photograph. Even Tighty won't get this, but Ralphy boy might.
No idea who those chaps are, but they look to be outside the High Courts.

Two TV characters, and yes, it could be the High Courts, though I seem to recall they were often seen near Scotland Yard.

Hi Tikay,
What do you think is the major difference between live tournaments now and live tournaments 5 years ago?
Previously on a scale of 1-10 how good did you used to stereotype the random player at a table against you (before you had played any hands)
Same question as above but current day?
Have you done anything (studying etc) to improve your game to change vs the "new breed"?
Anything that you are particularly interested in about current poker strategy or things that you have thought about but not really gone deeply into studying the area?
If you had a child 20 years ago would you do a Paul Jackson and try to get them into the game or a Barry Greenstein and push them into education?
In general what do you think about young people (18-21 year olds) decisions to go into education degrees that generally get them into debt and usually without a job vs doing a trade/learning something and generally finding a job ok?

Oh wow, we used to LOVE the beginning of that!
Dino is the winner. Jeez, 50's? I remember it so well. Some of you were not born when that aired. In fact, some of your Mums & Dads were not born then.
Proper good it was, to, Inspector Lockhart & Co.
Johnny Briggs was in it, too.

Nothing is set all seats are always 1st come 1st served you have to be in the building to claim a seat. If you arrive by these start times you will get a seat.

I'm not sure who are worse, the Media, for endlessly repeating it, or us for listening to it, but all this "wrap up warm, it's cold out" nonsense amuses. Just how daft do they think we are? Just how daft are we?
Cue this, unashamedly stolen from "pomfrittes" next door, & yes, I lolled hard, this is my kind of humour.
I read the government warning that anyone travelling in icy conditions should take a shovel, blankets, sleeping bag, extra clothing including hat, gloves, scarf, 24hr supply of food and drink, de-icer, rock salt, tow rope, petrol can, 1st aid kit and jump leads.
I looked like a right plonker at the bus stop this morning

I know you're going to think "he would say that", but it really isn't true that the regulars get a seat and the "outsiders" don't at the Vic. They are ridiculously fussy about lists and I have spent massive amounts of my life sitting around waiting to get into a game.
The reason I don't wait so much these days is I try to "play the system" as best I can and I play in bigger games where there are less people waiting (but also way less turnover).
Playing the system always includes calling up to see what is happening before I get there. It also involves knowing what games are likely to start when. I may want to play £5/£10 NLH and when I go in I can see two £2/£5 games but no £5/£10. I could be 8th on the list for £5/£10 and 5th for £2/£5.
My tactic or startegy is to ask a few of the bigger players in the £2/£5 if they'd prefer £5/£10 and if I get around 6 to ask at the desk if we could possibly have a dealer for that and when that might happen. This usually results in much sucking of air through teeth and a vague estimate of a time we could start in about 40 minutes. The worry is that the £2/£5 would have to condense to one game and some players might be forced out of their game.
I believe this is very bad for business and it may stop players from returning so I generally agree with their "never break a game to make a game" policy.

I don't generally play much PLO in the Vic.
It used to be that the £5/£10 PLO always started at between 4.30pm and 6pm and broke around 1am. That game depended on the smae bunch of regs and it stopped happening regularly every day around eighteen months ago. In order to "breed" a new PLO player pool £1/£2 and £1/£3 PLO games were introduced. The £1/£2 happens every day now (I think) and occasionally they may run £1/£1 or £1/£3 or some combination of two tables of PLO. The players in these games tend to stay for the night and if you aren't in the top three on the list you are on for a long wait.
You are correct that the Vic are often reluctant to start new games and some staff seem happy to see a list of 15 names. They are scared that the game will start and break.
The players have to take some responsibility though. Way too many regs are reluctant to play short-handed and don't want to help start games.
This really is the problem that stops extra games from running. I'm just about to write a blog about that actually.
