More on Mr Lin......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Lin

The "Racial Issues" section was a bit of a surprise.

google is absolutely rammed with stories about this kid.

As you say, proper feel-good stuff. Love it.

Defo teeks....was gonna apply for the role as your sports correspondent until I realised the sports u like most (horse racing and golf) I don't much care for, so you'd only really get football, cricket, rugby and basketball with me.

That racial stuff is as surprising as it is disappointing, but I guess it's only 20 years since it was normal to go to football and here openly rascist songs sung, now that never happens. My mate Tony Evans, who gave me that first job and is now footby ed at the Time and reponsible for 'The Game' which u enjoy so much once interviewed Clyde Best, who I think was one of the first black players in this country. He was openly abused and targeted, even by his own West Ham fans, bananas raining down on him, and the stuff he went through would have had most men just give up and duck out of the firing line. His strength and determination paved the way for todays' stars and Premiership product, an amazing man, wish I could find the interview, was in Football Monthly.

More Lin-sanity news tomoro, they don't play tonight. Be fun when their stars (Carmelo Anthony is on $65m over three years) come back to find some temp guy on less than $500k a year is the new cult hero

'Sweet and sour pork' is definitely my new favourite racial slur.

Interesting one - my Dad knew Clive best when we lived in Bermuda, I think he played against him but he definitely managed against him when Best returned to Bermuda. My Dad for years was the only white guy in the Bermuda league - which led to a lot of stick, there being racial troubles in Bermuda around that time. But still whenever any of the family go over it's mainly the black community we stay with.

Funny enough Best wasn't the best of his generation there, there was a guy called Subeezer who my Dad tried to get to come over to Britain to play, but he didn't fancy the cold or the travel - he ended up playing beside Pele for the New York Cosmos.

On the back of the amazing Jeremy Lin tale, for Jeff Kimber, & others who may want to take a betting interest in NBA, there is an NBA Betting Thread in our Sports Discusson Board, here.....

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=56488.0

It's quite a curious thread, runs to 6 pages, but 90% of all the Posts are by one Member, & he is often called exactly that. Splendid chap, all things considered. Give him some company, & feedback, please, he'll enjoy that.

More on the Jeremy Lin thing later - what a story!

The peculiar thing we call the internet was buzzing last night, articles, Tweets, all sorts, reporting the death of someone called "Keanu Reeves". Never heard of him, but presumably he is a TV or film chappie.

The reports were a complete hoax, he is fine & dandy, apparently.

It was reported that he died yesterday, in a snowboarding accident. Curiously, & uniquely, he was also reported to have died in another snowboarding accident, 2 months ago. Careless, that.

See....

http://www.examiner.com/movie-in-new-orleans/report-of-actor-keanu-reeves-snowboarding-death-a-hoax

Apparently, the same fate befell Adam Sandler. But it did not.

There are some sick sorts around. Wishing someone dead is one thing, reporting they are dead seems just as bad. Presumably, the authors of these hoax stories get some pleasure & satisfaction from all this.

I have a mental picture of the sort of people who spread these malicious rumours, sitting in their back bedroom, writing this stuff. Not a picture I want to describe, really.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was actually the actors or their representatives making the hoax reports.

Any publicity is good publicity for these guys.

Quite possibly, Matt, but no less sick.

A pundit/cynic on the wireless yesterday hinted that Whitney Houston's passing was excellent for the organisers of the Grammy Awards, as it would increase the SEO & "hits" of the Grammy Awards 100 fold.

I had a long think about that, & asked myself "would Max Clifford ever do such a dreadful thing?". Clearly, he would not, he is far too genuine, sincere, & nice.

PS - Well done on crushing Bet365. Epic.

Looks like we missed an investment opportunity....from Bloomberg:

'Jeremy Lin has helped drive shares in his boss, Madison Square Garden Co., to a record high and produced the National Basketball Association’s best-selling jersey just over a week after he was a substitute at the end of the New York Knicks’ bench.'

Yeh he was coach of the Bermuda national team when Tony interviewed him, was in the UK trying to find any players that were eligable for Bermuda, second generation Brits whose parents had come here from Bermuda and were never gonna get to play for England. Must be a thankless task trying to find that stuff out. Playing with Pele sounds like more fun, tho doesn't it get colder in new york than here?
