In my garden this morning, feeding, were 2 pigeons, a robin, & TWO blue tits.

Happy days!

What a life, and what a busy garden....

I think the first two might also be classed as a type of robin.

Up for your Sky thing, let me know the dates an stuff, finally got sent contracts so looks like me n Stu are staying!

Talking of basketball terms, any idea why putting spin on the ball in called 'English'? Same when u watch nine-ball, they call spin English. Here's another great new point guard, he's great to watch, Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves, providing an assist with added English....

Morning Jeff.

Great news on the contracts, for both of you. Stu told me the good news yesterday as to himself, but he was discretely non-committal about you, so I'm pleased it came through.

Them boys cut it a bit fine, eh?

I hope you & your sponsor both have a terrific year.

PS - You doing Vegas this year? I see you in the Main, year after year, sitting there with a big stack, maybe this year it will be your turn to have a real deep run.

He gets too busy with hands like AQ on day 4 to go too deep in the main event imo.

I have but it's classified under the Official Secrets Act.

So, I was playing a little PLO yesterday, & this hand went off.

I open MP preflop with 789Tdd, the btn calls and both blinds call.

Flop ($560)

chks to me I bet $440, the btn folds, the SB folds and the BB makes it $1,880 playing $24k
I cover and call.

Turn ($4,320)

Now, here is a tough spot. His flop c/r this deep is quite polarized, and I believe it's weighted heavily in the direction of bluffs. Not complete airballs, but hands he thinks (rightly) are way too weak to call, but have strong back-door equity and some nut outs, a hand like KQ95 with diamonds, Q874 with blues, or even a hand that has decent equity, but bad reversed implied odds vs the strongest parts of my range, something like 4789 with 8high spades for bottom 2 and a bad flush draw.  He can merrily fold these hands to a 3bet (he doesn't know too much about me except what he can stereo-type and from watching me play these last two days, so I don't think he'll expect too wide a 3bet here from me) but he has strong enough turn equity to bet enough turns when I peel. His actual strong hands, are very few, JJ, 99 with a fd or OESD or the monster, KQT8 with spades, AKQT with nut spades etc/

So my float is designed to keep my range wide open, I can still have 99, 44 and a lot of big draws, J9T8, the best wraps, the NFD etc, also he prolly realises I can Vbet well, so I can "vbet" non-nut draws that get there so my draws don't have to be polarized to nut draws this deep. All this, along with a reasonable draw of my own lead to me calling the flop.

Once he checks the turn it's really interesting, his range doesn't necessarily change from the flop, he could still have JJJ and be realizing that the PSR is pretty gross for him now, even if he bets $4k we still have $18k back and I'm going to call all my huge draws still, if he chks JJJ to c/j he can getup to $16k in, which will isolate him vs the top of my range but has a LOT of fold equity vs my lighter flop peels and thinner value bets + semibluffs, which prolly makes up for the most of my range, it also means he can c/c or c/r his big draws, depending on their immediate equity and how big the draw is (I.e something like KQJT with spades could jam with the JJJ blocker, whereas JT89 could c/c with strong showdown value and good draw, and a hand like AKQT with spades can play for it's equity and just c/c playing most rivers perfectly.  Him chking the turn is by no stretch a "white flag" although he could have been semi-bluffing decent backdoor equity OTF, and after my call and him bricking the turn be deciding to give up.

This puts an interesting decision on me. Natural instinct is ofc to chk back and try and realise my equity, I have 4 pure nut outs, 9 outs to what will often be basically the nuts, a pair and some other potentially non-exclusive equity, but still important. However this is, imo a spot where a LOT of inexperienced PLO players make big errors, my hand looks great but is just no-where near strong enough to take to showdown, and my opponents range DOES have hands he will be folding in it, but more importantly his range has not been capped by him chking this turn, but when I chk back my hand is 100% capped. I can be pot controlling some nut draws, but without any blockers in my hand it's very difficult to rep them when he could easily have that hand, I can't have a set, or J9 hardly ever once I check the turn. My visibility becomes awful (as in he will be able to value-bet and bluff almost perfectly vs me) and I will have to chk back a lot of times when i river my card. With this is mind, my only real option here is to bet/fold the turn, vs a player who is clearly a thinking one. I think as well, I have almost the perfect amount of equity (particularly non exclusive equity - I mean equity that will be shared or not be good win i hit) and enough fold equity to bet this turn.

I bet $4k. He calls.

River ($12,320) - possibly the most interesting card that can fall.

He bets $7,800.  I jam for $18k total.

Whereas I was saying I would have been capped if I chked the turn back, he is now capped once he just calls the turn, he can have J9** but his range is J9T8 or AJ9*ss, 44** I spose is possible and ofc all the big draws.  I figured on the river he would feel like he has to Vbet his nut flushes as I am going to chk back everything he beats, but given his capped turn range which excludes a lot of boats I might be forced to hero with a smaller flush. He prolly sees me as a good player, but I doubt he can give me credit for being able to jam $18k here, so would be able to assume he is not going to get bluffed all that often.  The other obvious reasons for me deciding to jam were that a) My range can have 99 and JJ, b) I have a 9 leaving just 3 J9 combo's left, and c) I think J9 with a mid-strength draw is not a hand he willl c/r the flop with this deep 100%, J9** with a very strong draw, say QJT9 with spades is a hand he'd be more likely to raise the flop with, and having done so is one of the hands I think he'll be very likely to lead the turn with over c/call because he stand a turn raise and he has blockers to JJJ and 999. This lead me to give him a lot less credit for J9, whereas I felt a lot of NFD combo's would be played like this, as well as a lof of bluffs and hands like 44 and 94 should he have a hand like A947 with spades and nut diamonds. Speshly given how if he doesn't have the NFD I will quite likely have it.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

...............

He folded, and I won a nice $26k pot

LilDave can but watch in awe.

Hi Tikay.

Are you attending the SPT in Glasgow?

No, I drew the Brighton straw.

We have a "same day double header" on March 10, & Rich begged to do the Glasgow leg, so I had to reluctantly accept the Brighton job. You know how it is.

I believe you won your seat - I do hope the day goes well.

Not sure if you have been to Scotland before, but do be careful up there. Strange people.

Why hasn't Karabiner got a diary?

Methuselah's Musings?

Ralph's Ramblings?

ARound with Ralph?

He has so many stories, it'd be an amazing read, but he keeps his cards very cllse to his chest, with his little one-liners, most of which are golden.

I fear it will never see the light of day.

I wanted to test the zoom lens on the new camera.

Here is St Pancras Station frontage. See those 5th floor dormer windows? - well, in the 2nd photo,  I snapped them from around 150 yards away, @ ground level.

In the right hands, that camera is a decent piece of kit for £130.
