Meanwhile, my day has just been turned upside down.

Had all sorts of plans to do this & that, but Anna Fowler, due to be Presenter on tonight's Show, is unwell, so I make my "Presenting" debut tonight, on the Live Show, with Neil Channing & Redmond Lee. (see how it works, snoops?).

I've not shaved in a week, & I need to get some kip, do the Prep, & rehearse for the 5 hour Live Show.

Sadly, it means I cannot bring you photos of tonight's culinary delight I had planned.

Swings & swongs, but nobody told me that retirement could be this much fun.

I'm Deffo watching. If tonights meal is anything like last nights, there's a better than evens chance he will shit himself live on air.Also... Round handled cutlery?  WTF? Cutlery needs flat-sided handles so that you don't have to waste concentration holding them level.

By chance, I stumbled across some Chuck Norris stuff. I'd never heard of him, but I gather he became an internet phenom a few years back - "Chuck Norris Facts", & sort of self-parodies it.

All very odd, & I suppose this photo may be part of that culture.

I just thought I'd give you a little update on one of your charitable donations Tony, not a DC game.

My niece Yuval who you generously sponsored a couple of months ago departed on Friday for The Himalayas and specifically Mt. Everest where she will be spending the next week or so hiking uphill until she and her companions reach base-camp which I believe is about two thirds of the way up. I think she has received donations of c£8k for her chosen charity.

I'm looking forward to her returning safe and sound and showing me the "thousands" of pictures she tells me she is going to take, and which I will of course share with you.

Well I wish her a safe trip.

She's a flutist or flautist (I never know which is the correct term/spelling), as I recall. And Uncle Ralph is extremely proud.

You may not be aware, but she wrote me a lovely, very personal, "thank you" note, which I was quite touched by.

The note below is NOT that personal note, but it was her "round-robin", so I'm sure she won't mind at all if I re-produce it, & you never know, a kindly soul or two may choose to make a small donation.  It was dated 16th November 2011.


Dear All!

On 23rd March 2012 I will be trekking to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Beit Halochem UK (Beit Halochem UK is affiliated to British Friends of Israel War Disabled).

This trek is categorized as 'extreme' and will take 17 days to complete. My trek will begin in the Sherpa capital of Nache Bazaar, later leading uphill from Thyangboche.
After reaching the height of 5,357m I will reach my goal of Everest Base Camp with its glacial floor and sunlit valley! This trek is the equivalent to trekking approximately 70 miles uphill!

I am writing this email to you as I really hope you will take the time to sponsor me in aid of Beit Halochem, UK which I think is a fantastic cause. For those who do not know of Beit Halochem, they are Rehabilitation, Sports and Recreation centres established by the Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization, a charity in Israel that aims to improve the quality of life of Zahal (IDF) disabled veterans, safeguarding their legal rights and promoting their interests through legislation of economic and social measures. The ZDVO fosters the full reintegration of the veterans into society by establishing 4 Beit Halochem centres in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem and Beer Sheba and offering a comprehensive range of services to its members.

The Centres provide a supportive atmosphere which will help the disabled veterans resume their normal lives as quickly as possible. Reaching those objectives involves a lot of thoughtful planning, professional experience and raising the funds so much needed.

He (DJ) was in Luton last night. I'm always slighltly amused by bodybuilders, they almost always wear those sort of "look at my muscles" type cotton tee-shirts.

Here's our Dave, to prove my point. Not.

PS - There was a Players Committee Meeting @ G-Luton last night, but you appeared to be absent. As were all the serial Luton moaners. Fancy that.

Everest is an amazing place to visit - I got to cycle up to base camp 18 months ago (on the Tibetan side)

It was hilly  - more in a bit.

I blame my other half, one day she said shall we cycle over the Himalayas? I said yeah, not realising she meant it - so a year or so later we were on a plane to Kathmandu. 3 days there collecting the bike and meeting up with the rest of the group, we flew to Lhasa. Then 4 days in Lhasa to acclimatise to the altitude.

Then we started cycling back to Kathmandu, the first day along the valley was easy - then we had to start climbing.



The cycle journey went over five 5000m passes, of which i managed only 3, Gyatso La which i climbed for 3 hours all up hill, no free wheeling at all, I gave up on with 5 km left, and got a lift in the van. Each night we either camped over night, apart from a couple of towns were we could stay in a hotel.



We turned left off the main road to go up to Base Camp - but arriving there was an anti climax, bit of a dump really, the journey to it made it worthwhile though.



Then having done that detour it was back on the road to Kathmandu, after going through the maddest border town and crossing I've ever been though we got on the main road. It had a few problems with avalanches so the truck that carried all our stuff could not make it over, so this pic shows some locals carrying the groups gear along the impassable bit, (bike tyres, bike boxes etc)



It was a total of 1100km, all temperatures, sunshine, rain, and hail, from below freezing to over 30 degrees back in Nepal. I loved it but i have not cycled more than 15 miles since.

Just breath taking. i am amazed by what people have seen and done on this forum. really wish i knew how to post pics
