You ever been to Bristol station?

I'm at all into this architecture phiff phaff but my head was turned.

Pretty impressive stuff, looked more a cathedral than a station.

Be VERY careful with Bristol Railway Stations, there are two main ones.

Parkway is pap, & I do mean pap.

Temple Meads, on the other hand, is a veritable cathedral as you'd expect when it was designed by one I K Brunel

What do you think of Sheffield station (It has been really done up all pretty like in the last 2 years)?

More importantly, what do you make of what will be the new super duper New Street Station?

Lance Armstrong Posted this on his Twitter feed yesterday.

Exactly what point was he trying to make?

Preferred it "as was", it had a certain charm.

Now it's neither one nor the other - it has those beautiful arches, all constructed of local stone, which have now been marred by huge swathes of glass & roof trusses. And that M & S just seems so wrong there.

And what is that water feature about? All wrong, imo. It's a regional station, not a theme park or Shopping Centre.

I rather like the platform set-up though.

Last time I was there it had positively THE world's worst Arrival & Departure Screens, they were the od black & white things, when the sun shone on them, they were impossible to read.

Sheffield deserves better.

PS - The tram system is poo, too. Wink

ANYTHING would be better than the existing New Street Station.

Truly, it is in a class of it's own when it comes to character & interest, it has not an iota or scintilla, a jot or a tickle, of either.

It is the Railway Station equivelant of Luton Airport. Utterly & wholly, lacking in a single point of merit.

Disagree. Luton airport has one point of merit, it's a way of getting out of Luton.

I came across this site thru various clicking on the internet.

Got a complete list of every airlines fleets in the world and all the details about the planes themselves.

Thought you might find it interesting when you next take pics of half a plane in the air at Heathrow

You can learn the most amazing things in the weirdest ways......

Whilst busy degenning in TfT, we had a wager on who would win the Samuel Johnson Book Prize. (We lost).

The author of the winning book was a chap named Wade Davis. Hardly exciting, really.

But then we learn his job.

He is an explorer-in-residence for the National Geographic Society.

He is not alone either. There are about 20 of them.

Is that the greatest job ever ever ever?

So, what do you do for your day job mate?

Oh, I'm an explorer in residence.

How fantastic is that?

I want to be one of them when I grow up.

It cost the City millions and it only covers a very small percentage of the City. It was originally supposed to cover pretty much every part of Sheffield and Rotherham, which would have been good.
