Cliffs?
Tighty is donning his Max Clifford hat tonight, & doing a Live Phone-In @ 7.20pm to the Show on Channel 861, to promote the next leg of the SPT, @ Aspers, Stratford. £220 buy-in.
Then there is a big announcement at 9pm, about a particularly striking young lady.
10pm, Sky Sports 3, Episode 2 of the Sky Poker Cash Game, including a very weird hand between Mr Channing & Rob Yong.
Whoops, some spammage slipped out there.
Walk on boys, walk on.

What's happened to your cat?
Nothing - I hope!
He was fine when I saw him yesterday. Chuntering, as usual.
Maybe I'll be returning home to Derbyshire soon, for good, so to speak. Get me a dog, + Angell, job done.
Just didn't think you had mentioned it for a while. Glad all is well.

As part of my savings plan for my future, whenever I have a decent bink/decent month I always put a bit aside into some shares. Always with fairly blue chip companies that you can class as 'safe'. This is actually something that has interested me for years, and I bought my first shares in London Clubs International back when I was 14/15.
In the days after 9/11 their shares totally nosedived (from memory there was a worry that their Arab customers would no longer come to London). I think I bought at 8p and held onto them right up until the Harrahs takeover at 90p I think. Back then I had no interest in poker/gambling....at all....funny to think that now my life revolves around that same industry.
Anyway I digress. Reason I thought of you was because I remember you mentioning Tesco when they had a bit of a dip and fell below 300p/share and because of that I invested some more dollar in them.
It's actually something that I don't really take a real active interest in....it's money that I forget about as its not intended to be used for many years.
But imagine my surprise that now they are at 370p. And ontop of that they have actually INCREASED in the last couple of weeks during all of this horsemeat business?! How does that work when Sainsburys/Asda/ haven't really been mentioned as much as them in the press.
Do you have any books/websites that you can recommend for investment? if you don't mind me asking do you have a general strat too? that goes out to everyone who reads this as I imagine blonde has some sickos when it comes to this field.

Great stuff, Ryan, you are doing, imo, exactly the right thing.
Now just forget you have those Tesco shares, they are not a short-term share, they will serve you well over the longer term. We are supposed to choose between capital appreciation or dividend income when buying Shares, but don't worry too much on that score, which is why I mentioned them to you & others several years ago.
The dividend yield is 4%, much better than you get from the bank, so thats good. They will never be an exciting share to hold, their sheer size means they have inertia problems, but it is a fine, fine, Company.
We think of them as a British outfit, with 30% of the UK Grocery Market, but they have more Stores overseas (mostly in JV's with local Companies) than they do in the UK. They have 3,000 in the UK, & 3,300 overseas, including a whopping 1,000+ in Thailand alone.
They are described as a
defensive
share, & they are exactly that. We will always need to buy bread, milk, shampoo, toilet tissue, fruit & veg, eating washing & shitting is a necessity not a fashion. Shares in Water & Electricity companies are equally defensive - we will ALWAYS need these things.
Don't worry about the horsemeat thing, it is largely media froth, & will soon pass. Share Prices are NOT based upon current values or market situations, they anticipate all that, & it is in the price, the share price is based on likely future earnings. There is a food scare every year, they soon pass.
EPS has increased from 8p to 33p over the last 12 years, impressive for an outfit so big.
Beef & processed meat Sales may drop temporarily, but it is a minute part of the revenues, & in any event, if customers switch away from those products, they will buy something else instead, we still have to eat. Likely substitutes are chicken, turkey, etc, & strategic pricing means Tesco will increase prices &/or margins on these, so it is win-win.
Anyway, you can ignore my ramblings about Tesco shares, because I can give you a much better reference. Berkshire Hathaway - Warren Buffett & Co - hold 5% of Tesco Shares at the last count, & continue to buy on weakness, & I expect that 5% to increase steadily over time. Maybe Mr Buffett will even mount a takeover eventually - the business throws off a lot of cash, & is well-managed, so it fits the Buffett Bill perfectly. He does not generally interfere in Operational Management of Companies he owns, traditionally he only buys well-managed outfits, & then alllows incumbent Management to continue running the place, whilst he sits back & counts his income.
In short, if it is good enough for Warren Buffett, who are we to argue?
PS - Here's one of the Tesco Stores in Thailand. Look carefully, & you can Cos, he's the one on the motorbike I think.

How clever is this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21406927
"A company in Japan has come up with a new way of demolishing high-rise buildings in densely built-up areas, as an alternative to using wrecking balls or explosives."
Hmm.
The cost must be ridiculously high. Can't see any future for that at all.

By way of reciprocation, here's something for you, sir (once you've entered).
I know you like photographic close up objects. How about stuff further afield without leaving the ippy?
http://www.itelescope.net/
It is a resource of Australian astronomers, who collate a lot of telescopes and pool their views together. You get to see what they see and explore the visible universe, take photos, even discover new stars. There is so much universe, the odds are still there that you might find something new.
You might recognise the name of the chap who took this photo of the Dumbbell Nebula. About 10,000 years old and 1,350 light years away (so the image is about 1,350 years old), it was the first planetary nebula ever discovered (1764 - older than the USA) and the central star is about half the mass of the sun.
The nebula is two light years across. If we stood at either end and you waved at me, I wouldn't see you waving for two years.
The red you see is nitrogen and the green oxygen.
Also, sorry if you hate this stuff!!
Well as it happens, no, it does not do much for me, but I happen to be a huge fan of Jodrell Bank, as Sir Bernard Lovell was a childhood hero of mine, he was to me what Beckham & Bieber were to modern generation kids.
The itelescope thing you mention is similar to - may even be part of - something called
Square Kilometre Array
, for which Jodrell Bank is the "Controlling Station".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Kilometre_Array
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodrell_Bank
I don't pretend to even begin to understand any of this, it is like watching & understanding Baseball Stats, all way above me, but I do find it incredibly fascinating. Must be a helluva Civil Engineering project, too.
