Well the plan WAS to force a fold from you.

Do as I ask next time. Wink

You see that speck in the background in the gap between the trees just to the left of the green? Well that's him, the bugger flew off just as I was about to get a close-up.

GCHQ Job Application Form.

The puzzle below apparently contains FIVE correct answers.

Get all 5 correct, & you qualify to work for GCHQ.

According to the daily newspapers, they did a similar thing last year, & only 170 people got it right, out of 3 million applicants.

I know two things.

1) I could never crack that code in a month of Sundays.

2) If 3 million people applied for a job at GCHQ last year, I'll spend all day reading 'Stars Hand Histories. 3 million applicants, my arse.

I quite like their sense of humour, though.

Note above that "code puzzle" the GCHQ signature - explore another world....

The theme continues below.

We are GCHQ - we spy, with added sense of humour

3 million applications, maybe.

5% of the population of Great Britain? Think I can crack THAT code.

Anyway, you found the 5 answers yet Brainy Bloke?

Ahh, thank you Alan.

I was clearing some stuff up the other day & found that very card. If only my mantelpiece was big enough.

Shame you missed Newcastle last weekend, was a pretty good do.

How is your boy these days - back to school this week? Do you have to buy school uniforms & all the PE kit & stuff? How much that lot cost?

The way the mind works, Part 93

I awoke this morning to see on blonde that Dubai won the $10k WCOOP PLO last night. Great news. "Hero".

I have some action in a package that Dubai sold for a specific basket of FTOPS & WCOOP Tourneys. Even better news.

Checked the thread to see how much I had. 2.5%. Very nice. Fantastic news

Then realised that the $10k PLO was NOT in the package. He's a tosser.

PS - Well done Mr Dubai. 100% pleased & delighted. Well, 97.5%.

Just had a search for the article and this amused me on a number of levels:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2417438/GCHQ-sets-spy-quiz-countrys-James-Bond.html#comments

Firstly, the journalistic phraseology hack chat of "spy quiz" is so unbearably twee. Find the country's next James Bond indeed...

Entitled ‘Can You Find It?’, the brain-teaser consists of 29 blocks of five letters which candidates have to decipher into five answers

There are not 29 blocks of five letters, though, are there?! 28 and one block of three letters. Why can't they actually describe what's actually there? Is it so much to ask of their audience?

Nothing ever beats the comments under a daily mail article, though.

I don't expect I'd be able to crack the code, tbh. It's unlikely that each block of five is a distinct word and that the piece makes sense on its own when decoded, as making sentences out of only five letter words would be a lot to ask. They could be five groups of words, though, so we should proceed on the basis that we have to find a letter of the alphabet for each of the letters in the code. If it is simple coding, we can assume Q to be a vowel and almost certainly E.

There you go. Have fun with that.

Quite so.

Q is an E. Obv. We got QE'd.

On the face of it, it seems that the standard of journalism have slipped dreadfully. But it can't be that easy an explanation, can it?

Perhaps they are brighter than we are, & are trying to engage us on our own level?

I really don't know. It just seems too easy to say "they are all stupid". It deffo feels that way at first sight though.

Not buying, but I don't pretend to know the answer.
