I love Poulter, and I'm not even that big a Golf fan.

Can't knock someone getting the lot after devoting their life to something.

Agree 100%.

He really is "the boy next door who done good"*

* That's just to annoy AlunB & Tal, who will gnash their teeth at that use of the subjective pronoun adverb.

I quite like that expression. No idea why Cheesy

I like that expression more than I like Ian Poulter (the character we see on telly, that is; no idea what he's like IRL. Possibly perfectly charming and a thoroughly good egg).

Can't imagine why you don't like him...

The Radio5 Live coverage is sensational

Clare Balding, who lost her uncle last night, John Inverdale, Andrew Cotter...a team following each match down the fairways with raido sets on their backs

Reverential coverage, deferent, but so much less of the hype.

They do big events very very well

TV on, sound down, radio up, job done

Nice one Rich, thank you, I'll put the wireless on.

Is there no end to Miss Balding's talents?

She really works hard, & it shows. Possibly the most respected person in TV these days?

I do sound a bit hard to please this morning, but John Inverdale........something about his style & tone really grates. He seems, to me, to be the ideal sort of chap for ITV Sport, or Big Brother. He gets a few gigs, too, Olympics, RU, Tennis, Golf.

Think he interviewed some Royal a while back, his sychopancy nearly made me puke.

I don't much enjoy his work, but I do admire him, so I won't say a word against him, or think ill of him, anyone who can do so well with so little talent deserves their success.

Inverdale I like

Researches a lot, and has that enviable quality of looking totally relaxed and presenting informally

He used to do general presenting on R5L the Rchard Bacon slot, and was very good on political interviewing too

Think he is excellent on Rugby, in particular, during the Six Nations

He was a very good standard fly-half for Esher RFC in the national leagues, and his knowledge of rugby really shows

Makes a fortune, an absolute fortune, hosting corporate events. Ultimate safe pair of hands

I enjoy his Rugby stuff, just nothing else.

"ultimate safe pair of hands"? Do behave!

He famously said this of Bartoli, the Lady tenniser.....

"I just wonder if her dad, because he has obviously been the most influential person in her life, I just wonder if her dad did say to her when she was 12, 13, 14 maybe, 'Listen, you are never going to be, you know, a looker. 'You are never going to be somebody like a Sharapova, you're never going to be 5ft 11, you're never going to be somebody with long legs, so you have to compensate for that"

That went down well.

Maybe Ms Bartoli's Dad did this, in revenge?

Love all the working from home stuff, just asked my boss if i could do that for a day a week in future as it would make life a bit easier. Sure no problem was pretty much the reply that I wasn't expecting but quite happy to get. I should have asked for more money as well...

Tony, haven't seen Mole in quite a while but still speak fairly regularly. Was hoping he was going to come along this Saturday as I am going out in Glasgow with Vinnie, Geo, Fett and ForthThistle. He has been having some upheaval at home so our Vegas trip this year got binned, hopefully catch up with him soon as my liver really needs that......

Every time I think of you two, a memory trigger from Vegas enters my mind.

You & Mole were sat at that bar near the Masquerade Tower, having a quiet drink or two, & I was on my way to play a Tourney Downtown.

I ran deep, & returned about 9 hours later, & the pair of you were still sat there, merrily supping.......

What a character he is.

When I was with Sporting Bet, as sort of Pro/Ambassador/Host or whatever, we took "Priority"players awat on little overseas trips, & Mole came with us to somewhere in Belgium. What fun he was, & he drove the locals mad with his antics at the poker table.

He became a very big poker Client of Sporting Bet, & he made a ton of money, or so I believe. Amazing to think back on it now, but Sporting Bet were on "Boss Media" (as was) at the time. Nobody seemed to bother about their software.

Boss Media later became some other name - International Poker Network? - & at one stage, DTD were on there.

Doubt that software changed much in 15 years, but they must have earned a goodly few bob from it down the years.

Ha! Strangely don't recall much about that day but have had some of the best times with the rodent. He always speaks very highly of you so much that he insisted that when we played a team comp at the Rio one year he had to get his hero's name recognised. Here he is sporting our team shirt below, any guesses on who the third member of the team was?

Ha!

I remember that now you prompt me. Must have been 3 years ago, that? You'll have to remind me who the third name was. I nearly died laughing when I saw that team name announced - tikay is an old fart. How did he know, so long before it became a fact?

Honestly, love him to death, a real character.

Best time to watch him display his talents is on a cash table, when Team Hoodie try & get the better of him, he just owns them, & they don't "get" him at all, in much the same way that many don't get Lawrence Gosden.

I recall seeing him move in "blind" every hand for two orbits once, & nobody could call him, & they were all getting arsey with him, which only served to encourage him. Eventually he got his caller. Mole had the Aces.....

If I had to choose a "dream fun poker table", he'd be on it.

Please give him my best regards when you next see him. As in "you were never gonna be a looker, Mole".

Talking of my "dream poker table", guess these three would both have to have a seat, too.

I tried to find the answer to Eck's question by googling "tikay is an old fart", & incredibly, google images gave me these three photos.....

Jen was a little tired & distressed in this photo. She absolutely murdered every table in that Tourney @ DTD, she just battered everyone, & won it in grand style with 7-3 or whatever. When she awoke the next morning, feeling rather whiffy, she had no recollection of even playing it.

See that replica football shirt? Well I had brekkie one day at Grand Lux in Vegas, proper posh it was, with some esteemed friends, including Lil Dave as I recall. Then Chompy gatecrashed us, wearing THAT shirt. Never been so embarrassed.

The third team member took some time off from crushing a very soft 5/10 game at the Venetian.

There you go that should keep you going for another few pages....

I had the pleasure of meeting The Mole once.
Chatted with him and a few other smokers outside the G at Coventry.
Later, having just won the APAT High Rooler/Pro League her attempted to sit at a .50/1 cash table with a full £1k. On being told it was capped at £200 he promptly did the all in every hand trick and lost two hands in quick succession to the same lad.
Said lad then left. No real problem with that, he probably thought Christmas had come early.
However, when he came back and tried to sit back down with £100 he discovered that The Mole was nowhere near THAT drunk!
He disappeared in the early hours leaving a very confused waitress trying to work out what to do with the pint of Baileys he'd ordered and paid for.

LOL @ pints of Baileys. That became our drink of choice on our second trip to Vegas, after about 3 days we kind of treated it as a meal.

At Star City they wouldn't serve us Baileys in a pint glass so a I think the order was about 30 doubles and two empty pint glasses please  Cheesy
