We can't argue though, "fast" cricket, snooker, darts, even poker with the current fad for "hypers" and Zoomy stuff are all extremely popular.
The world wants fast, in sport, wifi, food, personal relationships, everything.
Hurry hurry hurry!
Do we really want it though or are we force fed it by the people who run the things because it makes them more money?

Well the crowds prove that we want silly cricket.
In poker, nobody is forced to play hypers or Zoomy stuff, but more and more do.

Instant gratification shouldn't whoosh people if you think of the demands on our time in the modern world. So many things to cram into each day and so much choice. How many of us really have 5 straight days of spare time to take in a whole test match? Formats that give you a quicker fix of the things you enjoy within a convenient time frame are obviously going to be popular today. I mean when Tikay was young you either read by candlelight or stood singing round the piano and that was it so you had a good deal more time on your hands.

Not sure I buy the line that it is harder to find 5 days now than 30 or 40 years ago, when working hours were longer, and there was far less disposable income.
We did different things back in the day, but we were just as busy. To be fair, the days were longer then, or so it seems to me. Now they all whizz by, am pretty sure clocks run faster now and we get less time. Time is rigged, obv, the time RNG is corrupt.

Our days are so busy nowadays we still manage to spend hours posting on blonde! I don't think we have ever had more time than we do nowadays it's just how you choose to spend it. Whatever did we all do before we spent hours posting on blonde every week?

Well even if I accept that you guys in the Victorian era worked long hours down the coal pits etc all the growth in the sports you mention depend on youth engagement, kids & students. It would be hard to argue that the kids of today haven't got more to do than roll a hoop down the street with a stick.

Yep people are less patient cos there are many more demands on their time, as I said. Unless of course people are less patient just because, which seems less likely.

Vitamin water is an incredible thing. It perfectly hit on people's desire to stay young and to keep healthy without effort. It is, I believe, currently subject to a lawsuit for describing itself as being "healthy"
if you ever get the chance, watch the short series "Men who made us spend" on iPlayer. Tremendously insightful.
Did you really think so? I watched one episode and thought it was utterly inane and full of the marketing equivalent of aftertimers.

No, I really did enjoy it. Simple folk, we am in Brum.

I somehow doubt that.
Interesting we both had such contrasting views of it. I do think there is a lot of nonsense talked in marketing though so maybe I am biased. A company or advertising agency will launch 100 products and 1 of them hits the spot so they then explain how perfectly they judged the market for that specific one.

More options of how to spend their time, yes. Not sure there are more demands on time, imo.
I think people are generally less patient now, and I'm not sure that it's do with more demand on their time.
