Getting grimmed by taxi drivers is one of those things I'm so conscious of in the UK but I pay far less regard to it in Vegas. I go with the best of intentions and give appropriate instructions at the airport to the driver (the old tunnel or no tunnel situation) but once I'm checked in I soon forget about saving a few bucks.

I rarely find myself rushing anywhere, as I'm always early for tournaments and dinner reservations, which are the only two things that are time sensitive in Vegas. So it isn't a case of me being occupied with thoughts of being late.

Perhaps it's a case of being on holiday and not caring too much about a couple of dollars. I think I subconsciously reason I can always tip a bit less, if the number in red feels too high.

I also have little sense of road geography there. I know where all the hotels are and the attractions (well, what I consider attractions anyway; I know a lovely rare bookshop between Venetian and Palazzo I visit each trip, but couldn't tell you where Peppermint Hippo is), but I have no idea about how to negotiate the one way systems and traffic spots to get there, if it isn't a case of going up or down on the Strip. I know Koval is parallel to the Strip on the Harrah's side and there's a Frank Sinatra, a Dean Martin, a Flamingo and a West Harmon, but it's rather like Hundred Acre Wood to me...

...I know of all the bits but less on the how to get between them.

This all means I'm not confident challenging a sudden right turn off the Strip, because I've no idea whether it's the correct manoeuvre to get to the taxi rank for drop off.

As you might recall, Tikay, you and I shared a cab to watch some rounders last year (where we root root rooted for the home team, they didn't win and it was a shame) with an Elder. The Elder questioned the route taken by the cabbie at one point. I'll get the details wrong but the basics are there.

"Is there a problem with West Harmon today?"

Cabbie glances up at his rear view mirror with a moistening brow. "Huh?"

"It's OK. I was just wondering why we weren't going down Harmon as it's surely just there then right down Sammy Davis Drive."

"There's roadworks that way today. I came from there earlier and it was a total stop"

"Oh right", the Elder said with enough acceptance to end the conversation there but just enough remnants of suspicion to leave the Cabbie in no doubt that future unauthorised changes to the itinerary would not be tolerated.

Ten minutes later, the Cabbie asked where we wanted to be dropped off. I say "we", but I mean the Taxi Captain in the back, who duly obliged with a polite and wilful instruction.

It's a characteristic you see at poker tables with some people. Could be a top pro or a celeb. They turn up, sit down, everyone's eyes widen, they smile at them, then get their phones out (texting, tweeting and whatsapping with a range of discretion). Every joke goes through them for approval. No conversations will be held at the table without their involvement (even if you start one, they'll be sure to join in). And of course, no pot will be stolen from them without consequences. God forbid you if you knock them out; many of the table will be most displeased to lose this charming character, even if he was stifling everyone else's progress.

I'm on the way down to London. I have just been informed that the train manager today is Brad. No doubt that the ETA is a GTA (guaranteed time of arrival); Brad won't let us down.

First up, what a lovely picture that is, & of course it can only be Winie-the-Pooh. where the woozle wasn't says so much about a child's mind.

I have tried reading Winnie-the-Pooh twice, & could not get into it either time. I fancy I was too young to appreciate it properly, but now I'm ready & I think I'll love it. I had the same problem with Catch-22, I read it twice in my younger years, & really enjoyed it. Recently, I took to reading it again - & it seems 10 times better, now that I can comprehend better the deep & often achingly black humour.

Mr Channing being the Taxi Captain in Vegas? He was awesome, the way he left the questions hanging. When in Vegas, I seem somehow reassured to be in Neil's company, as he has a more detailed knowledge of all things Vegas than anyone I know. He made the Vegas TV stuff 100 times better last year, as I usually do it solo, & it's hard to do that way. With 2 to camera though, it worked wonderfully, & I could just throw a word or two in his direction, & off he'd go. It was a sort of Morecombe & Wise, Penn & Teller or Two Ronnies - a non-funny straight man or stooge, & a talented funny one. Or like Queen, a really great pop band headed by Freddie & with boring Brian May. The only time I swerved Neil was after he'd bust a comp. He ran particularly badly last year, never above starting in 7 Comps, so he must have been a bit down, but I'm not a good listener to those sort of situations. We did have the most lovely dinner with him & Anne at Wynn though. Or was it Encore, I can't recall? I rarely dine with anyone in Vegas (Gill excepted), I make polite excuses, so he should have been honoured. Ish.

Baseball in Vegas is amazingly enjoyable, very much "this is America". The average gate at Cashman Field is just under 5,000, about the same as many as at Sky Bet League One & Two football Clubs in England. How many policeman are on duty? None, not one.

But they have attendants, who stand at the front of each seating section, of which there are 10 or 12 sections, two attendants per section.  Their job? They each have a bin-liner, & they walk amongst the seats at the bottom of every innings & collect your rubbish, chip bags, pop bottles, peanut shells, da de da.

It's just lovely, & I enjoy going there so much, more for the sense of occasion than the Baseball. We have the best seats in the house, right behind the catcher bloke, & they cost $20. It starts whilst it is still light, bright sunshine, lovely & warm, & then the light fades, the floodlights come on, it's just such a lovely way to spend an evening. Vicarage Road or Griffin Park on a November evening it is not.

Camel made me go the first time, then the next year I took Gill & bumped into Mark (blonde "Longy"), & last year, it was you & Mr C.

Such lovely memories.

Love storytime, always great reading.

We'll have to get you along to the T-Mobile Arena this summer, so you can see some live UFC Wink

Better put me down for 1% of your action, please.

At least I have a shot at getting out of it then.

Do you ever use Wikipidea?

Pretty sure we all do, to a greater or lesser degree. I reckon I use it upwards of 20 times per day, it is just so useful. We used to buy whacking great volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica, cost us fortunes. Their print division must long ago have perished.

With Wiki, & google, it's never been easier or quicker to learn so much. Read a book, or watch some TV, & every 5 minutes, I have that need to go to Wiki & look up the what & why of something or someone. It's just awesome.

I was reading Bryson last night, as he dribbles round Britain, & had the need to Wiki several times per chapter.

Anyway, I was staggered to see a list of the Top 25 "most viewed" Wiki Pages the week before last.

Scientific research? Why does it get dark at night? What is ear hair in elderly chaps all about? How does a TV picture come down that tiny cable? How the hell does an I-Pad swipe left & right, or how when you adjust the clock on a smartphone, the "counter" appears to revolve, like the reels on a one-arm bandit?

No no no, none of those matters.

Top rated was a frigging BATMAN film.

2nd was Patty Duke. In 3rd, understandably, was Donald Trump, & "Deaths in 2016" was no surprise at #6.

But now it gets com. In 7th place.

WrestleMania 32.

Which, considering we are assuming they are old enough to read, was quite a shock. WrestleMania is the 7th most viewed Wiki Page in a week?

And there have been THIRTY TWO of them? Surely kids grow out of it when they start school?

Read the list &  weep. Think I'll go back to those lovely old encyclopaedias. No wrestling shite in them.

The Queen of Cambridge suffered a "Marilyn moment" yesterday during what was intended to be a solemn tribute to those in India who died in the Great Wars.

Her £1,700 dress, presumably not from C & A or Dorothy Evans, got a little flustered.

In reading the backstory, it seems she needs lessons from the proper Queen, who has weights sewn into her dresses to prevent such mishaps. Who'd have thought?

I don't wish to appear overly critical at this early stage of the staking adventure but 'Team Vegas' is lame. It's all about the branding these days and it's all about the attitude and lifestyle a brand evokes. Personally I like 'Team Ass-Rip'. This means business, it's a signal of intent, it's mean and moody. As it stands 'Team Vegas' makes us sound like a group of old women from the bingo club going to watch a Barry Manilow concert at The Mirage. I would also seriously consider going blonde again for the trip, sure it's retro but that's bang on trend at the minute too.

To do lists?

Do you ever add a job to said list that you complete within the timeframe of the list just so you can cross it off?

100,000+ in attendance this year at Wrestlemania, which is no mean feat.

I stopped watching wrestling a long time ago, but when I started my job working the nightshift, it was always on at 1am on a Monday night. I ended up watching it every week live, and it's just as entertaining to me as it always was.

I was a huge fan as a kid, as I imagine loads of people were in the late 80s and late 1990s when it was booming. Wrestling in general is undergoing quite a revival in the UK, and there are big shows happening every weekend.

I went to a show in London in December with 11,000 people at Wembley Arena and it was a brilliant night out. I'm going to a weekend long tournament in London next month which should be equally as entertaining.

It's quite a divisive method of entertainment. It's essentially a TV show that never ends, the stories just happen to be easy to follow and instead of conversation to advance them, they "fight".

The above video explains wrestling and focuses one one storyline that has been continuing since 1996, and despite being 20 minutes long sums it up very well. It's a TV show, about a wrestling show.

I heard a quote once which sums wrestling up quite nicely - "For those who enjoy it, nothing needs to be said. For those who don't, nothing can be said to change their minds".

Agree that the Team Vegas is bland and a rebranding is necessary but Team Ass-Rip sides like the result of a particularly large anal probe.
