Been watching a ton of sport this weekend, & of course, these days, that means interviews galore.

In yesterday's football, golf & Moto GP, I must have watched 10 or 12 sportsmen or women being interviewed.

In at least half of them, the subject began his or her reply with.....

"yeah, no, the thing is, bla bla".


What is all this "yeah, no" about? How does that even begin to make sense?

Talking of talking.......

The Sky Sports Test coverage included a new young lady (new to me), who was thoroughly wonderful. Good diction, spoke nicely, great knowledge of the game (she played for England in the Cricket World Cup  I believe) & a lovely relaxed but not over-informal style.

This photo, from the front page of today's The Times, made me smile. In a nice way.

For the hard of hearing, it's Jacob Rees-Mogg with his son, Peter.

Actually, Peter's full moniker is Peter Theodore Alphege Rees-Mogg.

As you might have guessed I don't speak much Latin but it tickles to look up the odd phrase, especially when l can work out how the words we use now are related to it.

My big love is quotations and lots the good ones are translated directly from Latin.
