Hacking it round the back nine

Won't bore you with too many details of my demise in the $1,100 Big O Bounty affair at Venetian as I don't want to make it sound like I'm complaining, it was one (another) of those days when I could not do much right.

The highlight - well lowlight - was flopping a boat in the BB in an unraised pot. I was holding 7-7 on the 10-10-7 flop. He had a 10 so he bet it. I think I played it badly, but bottom line is he the turn was a 9 & he was holding a 9 as well. He bet half pot on the River & I fell for it... Have to be so careful with "under boats".

So after sliding down the ladder I went for a flip strategy & went up & down for an hour or two before eventually visiting the luck well once too often.

Only positives were I never took the rebuy, as I would have only got 20BB or so, & I won a $200 Bounty in somewhat fortunate circumstances off a shortie.

Ummed & arred about playing the nightly $200 NLH @ Orleans but swerved it in the end, was a bit tired.

At least you ripped one new one.

Onward and upward.

Morning all.

First up, I think/hope there's some good news about animalpoker. I'm not 100% certain but his name is Rob Price so I think he ran 4th for decent money...

Thank you
$30k including bounties for 4 way equity chop approaching 4am - it was the least pressured I ever felt to do a chop, which was lovely as normally 1 or 2 go nuts if people don’t want one, but it was late , I was running on fumes , and I’d laddered up well at the final table as one of the short stacks.
Was chipleader with 17 left and for hour or more before that but couldn’t push on, but totally happy with my game.  Applied pressure when we were short handed before the final table which could have resulted a huge stack if not for one single pot where the chap murdered his aces but scooped me . My biggest cash in 17 years so buzzing this morning and thoroughly enjoying a celebratory Eggslut before the 2pm WSOP $1,500 PLO8 .

On the “quiet” front I like to think I’m not as splashy as I used to be but still capable of any move at any time - prime example when we were 5 or 6 to a flop of 10,10,x and I bet mid position for 1/4 of the pot and everyone folded - the other Brit and yourself convinced I had a 10.  Nah just a standard stab then give up move .  That said if I don’t get a tough table today I’ll be trying to push the action a lot more in 4 card than big O where 8 handed your moves are very limited .  My skills are postflop so I try to apply that rather than pot raising preflop these days .

great score rob  , corona count for the tourney pls

Zero surprisingly, I’d had 7 or 8 on the Monday then a few Tuesday along with copious amounts of vodka cranberry so it was a behave myself day yesterday .
That was the first time I’d drunk 2 days running, I’ve been sober every other day this trip apart so far that 2 days .

I’m gonna struggle to resist some beer today but not tempted yet - got a really good table in $1,500 plo8 so far .
Tikay spotted bit too far away for me to bother him until the break

Ha as I wrote this seat 5 has got a beer and it looks good

Short of time as I need to change Hotel rooms today, so I have to vacate my room by 11am.

First up, I never made mention of Wednesday's $1,500 PLO8, so as you may guess, I drew another blank.

I briefly held hopes of making the cash when we reached Level 9, but it all went a bit tits up when I got up to 50,000 & got quartered in a 100,000 pot. Bit of a weird one - the flop was 3-4-4 rainbow, & Matey Boy & I both got it all-in on the flop. On their backs, we have identical hands except for suits, (A-2-5-6) but he had backdoor clubs, I had backdoor spades. The nut low duly arrived for us both, it's almost certainly a chop, so no loss or gain, but running clubs gave him three quarters & I'm in deep poo with 25,000. So I opened up for a quick bounceback but that soon ended badly.

There are no bad beats in Omaha variants, ranges run super close & it's part of the game, but a series of "unfortunates" does affect thinking & confidence.

That made it 6 MTT's with just a min cash ($237 in a $120 comp) & a $200 Bounty. So I'm in a bit of a hole, & starting to fear the worst, could I draw a blank on the trip?

I play poker for fun, & enjoy it immensely, but my self-confidence is super fragile, so I was feeling a little disappointed, plus I have  significant (& very very supportive) investor, & most of all I feel bad for him.

I'm sensationally mediocre at poker & outright useless at golf, but it does not stop me enjoying both. I'm used to failure, it's fine, but a staker does bring added pressure. Plus there's the humiliation.

How did Vegas go?

Drew a complete blank

Sort of thing.

Doubts creep in two. I'm closing in on 80, have I still got all my marbles? It's tough to run with the kids. When two players table their (Omaha) hand, it takes me a few seconds to work out who's got what, bad eyes, slow mind, but the youngsters size it up in a millisecond.

Anyway, on to yesterday's $1,500 Big O. Two Day 1's & the plan was to enter both if the first went tits up.

I had THE most perfect opening table line-up for my style & game. Very passive, lots of limping, lots of cheap flops.

It must have been 2 hours before we saw an all-in, & that was me, still had my 25,000 starting, so did villain, & I got three quarters.

After 9 levels, I was 43,000, so that's OK.

Then the table texture changed completely, 2 new super aggro and very good players potting everything, so table very dangerous now. Mostly the aggro duo are playing for stacks, so it's real double or nothing stuff. Anything could happen next 3 levels.

One of them was this lad, Peter Park.

Him & another lad absolutely dominated the table, sensed weakness & put everyone to the test for stacks. Lovely to watch, not so much to play against...

Sort of Asian American, lovely kid but very aggro & great imagination, he got it in with all sorts of weird hands, & soon busted 3 or 4 players.

Anyway, at the break after 6 (?) Levels this was the score...

Scooped the first pot after the break to go to 70,000, then I made a terrible mistake.

Its a big 3 way pot, I'm last to speak & hold A-2 for the nut low but no high. Peter Park pots it, next guy dwells for ever before calling. I am sure Peter is on the high, he tends to play higher cards, & the dwell by Player 2 - a lovely Iranian chap - sort of gave me the feeling he might be marginal with A-3. If I get it right I get half of a big 3 way pot.

I get it wrong, very badly wrong, they BOTH have A-2 & Peter has the High. So I get one-sixth. Boy, did I feel stupid....

Gear change time & it comes good immediately when I scoop 3 way to vault up to 97,000.

3rd break after Level 9, Late Reg closes now & players are falling fast....

The deal is play continues down to 15% of the field, all of whom get guaranteed $3,063 & after which play stops & we return on Sunday for Day 2.

Two more nice scoops & I'm loving life, 4th break after Level 12...

So, just 24 players off the money & Day 2, & I decide to shut up shop for the night.

Then the gambler's enemy - greed - strikes. Last hand of the night (down to 150 already but finishing the Level then bagging) there are 6 limpers to my BB.

And I can't resist, so announce Pot, with maybe a touch of a smirk. Who wants to play a big hand last hand of the night? Genius move by me.

Then Peter Park moves all-in.

****

I have nothing, & it's an auto-fold, so I've butchered a lovely Day 2 stack.
