Poker books - you need to know what your opponents have been reading.

Poker books - you need to know what your opponents have been reading.

Especially if it's Mills & Boon.

never read a poker book, never intend to.  I've tried flicking through them, but they bore me to tears, much rather get out there and just play.

MHO. Books are more useful to beginners than they are to advanced players. When you are starting out, any information is valuable, as you progress you develop your own style and so it becomes more difficult for someone else to tell you how you should play your game.

On the whole though, reading any book on any subject is never really a bad thing.

lol - yes, we've had this conversation before.  I'll probably never be a better player because of it, but if becoming a better player takes the fun out of the game for me, I'll stick where I am thanks Smiley

This thread is just fantastic,  your updates and Tom's input make this a very special thread which I tune into as soon as I log onto Blonde.

PS...I too am fortunate to have been to the Red's residence and my goodness it is as Tony says and more. Sheer heaven.

For the sake of clarity, the "Residence" is just a caravan, and quite an old one at that. It's being close to nature and the outdoors that people like.

It's part of the answer to the often asked question, "Why don't you just give it up and live in a house?"

My feelings exactly. I just want to stay there forever.

There's a thing......

I tell you something Ian. The DTD thread is an interesting example of what happens when subjects become too emotive, & "passion" over-rides common sense. We ALL want DTD to open, 100%, but folks say the daftest things as to how to achieve the goal. Me, I'm trying to do my little bit, behind the scenes, lobbying the Big-Knobs & making sensible suggestions to them as to how to untangle the situation. It's do-able, it IS, but some of the daft comments on the thread don't help, lobbing insults at the Casino Groups for starters.

Tom's situation with his local council is just breathtakingly extraordinary, I wish I could explain it fully & properly, but Tom may consider some of it to be best kept out of the domain. You cannot BEGIN to imagine how dreadfully he is being treated, it's been going on for years, & he has no security beyond a few weeks. The Department of Environment (or it's current equivelant) & the Local Council have been passing the buck back & forth, & nothing is happening. It's coming to a head in the next few weeks though. It's entirely possible they will rule against him - maybe no better than even money. He's been there for years, is a much-respected member of his small village community, & as you can imagine, much-loved by all the villagers. And yet, if they rule against him, he'll be gone within weeks. When the Appeal happens, it may last days or even weeks, whilst evidence is given. Tom, of course, has the right to stand up & defend his right to live there. He's allowed to speak for........3 minutes. Not a second more. I kid you not. Three frigging minutes he's allowed.

So when I see Ian say "let's chain ourselves to his gate" I'm almost tmpted to agree. I know, it's daft, & will achieve nothing, but I do feel so strongly about this. Tom will stay within the Law, but they'll know they've been in a battle.

It's an outrage.

Talking of DTD, I'm intrigued by the new powers the GC have.

Presumably, they will have to make a decision on what to do about the Unlicensed Venues. Issue notice of intended prosecution? Raid them? Warn them? Who knows.

I guess we will know soon enough, once September 1st arrives.
