Tikay, only just found this diary, n1, its quality. I also want to say that whilst i think you are a legend, your view on poker books is shocking. I like tightends response about them being part of a well-balanced poker diet lol.

Indeed, shocking to ignore all that combined poker experience set out in print. I think someone queried this on Sky the other day.

It's not like us to disagree!  Wink I think books have their place and I also enjoy reading Alex's comments. 1 out of 3 is not bad for us

You were saying, Kiddo?

Rookie finished 93rd, & Compo tried to get lairy with me with 7-8, but I bravely called to cripple him. Compo finished 209th.

And I cashed......

Each to their own Alex. For me, they are of no use or interest whatsoever, & I can't recall a single thing I learnt from a poker book. Everything I've learned, such as it is, has come fom watching, playing, & listening. And losing - that's the key learning element. Because losing hurts. And we remember pain.

But we are all different, & for some, yes, poker books are fine. But remember this - if we all played the way books taught us, we'd all play the same. And that would never do, eh?

You think the authors of those poker books reallky write them for our benefit, to impart all their wisdom? Or because they can earn money out of writing them? Most "tuition" biooks by big-name Pros are ghosted.

What about the point Andrew raised about knowing your opponents?  If everyone else is reading a particular book (let's say Harrington for example), would it not pay to read what they've read in order to gain an advantage?

Harrington is a must read..not because of the wisdom that is imparted in the books but simply because you can spot the guys who have been reading it (and play like it) a mile off...Donking around with their "M" and all that..it's the only reason to read Harrington.
