Lennon, Ashley Young, Bentley, I would pick any of them ahead of Becks....

He has regressed as a player in the last year.
Nemesis will tell you different but, according to my 'Tottenham friends' they are disappointed in him.

He could always have Becks on the bench and bring him on for the last few minutes.
What'd be the harm in that ? That would make everyone happy I reckon.
Ahh, I see the point now. It's about making everyone happy is it? Pardon my sarcasm Ralph, but that's EXACTLY my point. Too many England Managers try to make people happy. I'd prefer one who helped our Team win something.
You, Ralph, are old enough to remember the furore in the '66 World Cup, when the God that was Alf Ramsey picked HIS side, & left Greavesy - the Becks of his day - out of the side, & he got absolutely slated for it. He won the World Cup, mind. Remind me what England have won since sir Alf retired. He was a proper manager, & knew all the psychological tricks, & nobody kidded Alf. And he won things. Mr Clough was of the same ilk, before alcohol took it's deadly hold on him, & he won a trophy or two with "ordinary" players, too.
Anyways, Mr Capello must do whatever he decides, the sentimental tosh route, or the let's be serious route. My bet stands.
OK, I gotta get ready, I'm off to Brighton shortly, & I'm picking Red up on the way. He's promised to keep my car clean & tidy.

McLaren made a mess of the Beckham situation because he dropped him purely to prove a point about how he could make 'big decisions'. He was sacrificed so the insecure idiot could show what a big man he was.
Capello doesn't need to prove anything, as he has years of top level trophy winning behind him. He also knows Beckham from his Real Madrid days. I'm sure he will pick him to start in the friendly as, once Beckham as his 100th cap, it's much easier to treat him as 'just another player'. He's also helped by the fact that no other right-winger has really forced himself to be first choice - Aaron Lennon has been a bag of spanners for a while now and SWP cannot cross a ball to save his life.

I just think it's funny that people think that the tabloids are right and that there would be "a public outcry" if Becks doesn't get the captaincy for this game. F off, these are the same papers that wanted Becks stripped off the captaincy. They only want this so they can write a story. The English tabloids have not cared for the England team and English football for ages...and the public don't actually care whether Becks gets his captaincy for this game...they just want a good game of footie where people put some effort into playing for their country. Everybody who listens to the tabloids and their opinions about the England side, and who should do what and who should play where, is a mindless drone.
It's about time the tabloids get ignored by the manager in England as they are the ones that have been turning the England team into the big joke it is now. The sport columnists for The Sun all wanted to be England manager themselves and that's where the problems all stem from.
They wanted Capello, now let him get on with the job and shut the feck up!. It's his team, let the man make up his own mind..maybe that'll actually get you to the next major championship (which you also won't win)

It's a friendly FFS, not a competitive game, and love him or loathe him Becks has been a great servant for England, how else could he have been capped 99 times. I think that he deserves his 100th, and it's not as though he's being brought back from retirement as many feel that he is worth a starting spot on merit.
Ramsey omitting Greaves was a tactical decision, Capello not letting Becks win his 100th cap would be mean.

and here lies the problem. England fans want Becks to get 100 caps and also want england to be world champs. The switzerland game is Capello's first chance to see what his team can do and bring Becham in for 1 game would be foolish. Either way he will get slaughtered by the press.

I thought I read somewhere that Alf did not pick Greaves because Greaves told him that he did not want to play for England any more. I think Capello will pick Becks since, at the moment, including him in the team makes England stronger.

Why should a player deserve an extra cap? Capello's got to build a new team looking towards next season when the qualifying starts for the World Cup, Beckham's highly unlikely to play in that so he has earned 99 caps & that's a fair achievement.

indeed.
And it's not Capello who would be mean by not picking Beckham..it was McLaren when he did WHAT EVERY ENGLAND SUPPORTER WANTED and drop Beckham when he was not the problem in the England side. That would cost Beckham his 100th cap. England supporters really piss me off sometimes..You lot really are a fickle bunch...proper short-term memory.

Anyway, what's the big deal about getting 100 caps for one of the peripheral countries in world football?
