There you go, two for the price of one. How awful is the British Library?
a strange place on the inside as well. I didn't know what to make of it the few times I've been there (which is not good in a library)
They're called 'books'.

Plus, you seemed to have moved into gender categorising here, which neither Lucy or Jen will probably like. They want to be seen as poker players, not female poker players
Oh! So THAT'S why they play ladies only comps
Don't get me wrong, if I was a girl, or could get away with pretending to be one, I would be only too glad to exploit every advantage I could.
But you can't have it both ways. (no gender-based pun intended)

I can certainly understand that point. To play devil's advocate slightly, just because a female plays a female only tournament, does that mean she should always be categorised as a 'female player'? If
Dan
Harrington
,
Tom
McEvoy
or whoever participate in a seniors only comp at the WSOP, do we refer to them as great senior players? Nope, they're just great players, senior or not.

No, but it does mean that they can't complain, (or in this case you on their behalf) when someone does categorise them as female players.

I freely admit to having it both ways. I was backed for that ladies' tournament, and at the time my bankroll was such that I didn't have the luxury of turning it down due to principles. But whenever anyone asks me on or off the record, what I think of them (women's events), I am inevitably negative. If someone still wants me to represent them/their tournament knowing exactly what I intend to say when asked my opinion, then fair play to them.
I am a giant hypocrite, and sleep pretty well at night. If people want to classify me as a 'female player' or an 'American/English player' or a 'weak donkey player' I don't care one bit. I used to care a little about such labels, and other people's opinions of me, but I am delighted to say that with each passing day I care less and less about any opinion which has no stats/examples of my play itself to back it up. The prejudgement of others can only work to one's advantage.
If Red dresses up as a girl in an attempt to get into one of these events, I will start a petition confirming that I believe him to be a woman.

Precisely the attitude I expected.
Were I in your shoes, I would feel the same, (I suggested as much in my post).
Now, if we can just explain it to Snoopy.....

Hmmmmmmmm, didn't Red go 'blonde' at some point? Maybe you've discovered a new 'dare for charity' we could throw Red's way.

Lol, as I said, I can certainly see your point, but in my eyes they are still just players to me, whether they've played female only, senior only, moustache only or whatever comps. I think Jen and Lucy's achievements in poker deserve recognition as achievements from poker players rather than female poker players, even if they have been, as many would say, hypocritical. From what I understand,
Annie
Duke
,
Kathy
Liebert
,
Jennifer
Harman
etc don't play female events, but are often tagged some of the best female pokers player around instead of some of the best poker players around.

Yes, a good post by Jen. I mean....what is categorisation and who really cares?? Politics, discrimination and all other such petty nonsense have no place at the poker table. Poker is a bubble and within it you play against your
opponents
.
If you are in the habit of sitting down with preconceived ideas about your opponent because of gender etc...then you would be a fool really. But I don't think ladies tournaments should cause any offence to the participants. It is just a tournament with restricted entry and it is there to be won. If you can play it and win it then good. Tournaments with a £1000 buy-in have restricted entry as well because many cannot afford such a stake. Being classified as a woman player or a senior player is no bad thing...because it is the fact of the matter. It is the associations that others attach to that categorisation that is the problem. But that is just a problem for them...and of course you, if you respect the opinion of bigots, that is.

One thing I have found in my carreer( I use the term loosely) in ice hockey is that you can't please everyone all the time! You need to please the one that is paying your bills. In poker that is usually, yourself if you let everyone get to you then, you will always question yourself and your mind will go and you will become what the nay sayers want! If you stay positve and play good cards then your game will shine through. women men or people tikays age!
