And why do these people need an office in Mayfair, what do they actually do, & do the Major "Corporate" Brewers really care a stuff about a Brewing & Distilling Istitute?

I spotted this in Clarges Street, which links Curzon Street to the road which runs alongside Green Park.
It seems so incongrous there, for some reason it seems odd to have them in the middle of Mayfair in a Shiny Signwritten steel & glass-fronted building. Why don't they relocate to Swindon, or Newcastle, Milton Keynes, or even Slough, where the rent wold be about a tenth of the Mayfair rents? What do they actully do there?
They keep a register of pedigree dogs and bitches and charge a fortune to accept your puppies as such. They also decide things like how long a dog's muzzle should be, or how loose it's skin is.

Ahh, very useful, eh?
Presumably functions which would not be possible if they were based in Slough?
Sounds like they have their heads up their arses to me. I bet they take themselves very seriously.

I gather that Steve Holden won himself a Vegas Main Event Seat last weekend in that monster 'Stars Vegas Super Sat. It made a whopping 226 seats, & there were over 8,000 runners!
Well done Steve.

Typical puppy. For the sake of argument, lets say a Labrador. Bred on a farm, from excellent stock. Sound in temperament, wind and limb, but not KC reg. Value.. £50.
Same breed, from a puppy mill, diabolical conditions, no one cares about temperament or genetic defect, but KC reg. Value £450.

These three guys made the final three in Luton on Monday, & after over an hour of 3-handed play, ended up chopping the money, about £700 each.
These sort of guys are my poker heroes, never mind these "Blue Scouse" sorts, every Cardroom has a bunch of guys like these three, "Fathers of the Cardroom" almost, who turn up week after week, & quietly & efficiently earn a nice little pension, no fuss, no bother, proper players. It's a bit easier in Luton right now, with Chompy, Celtic, Sicilian, Edna etc all away in Vegas, but even so, these three guys seem to coin it big-time in Luton, & it's seems rare a Final Table does not include them.
Simon Galloway - on the left as we look - has Cashed in about 5 of his last 7 outings in Luton, & Dick Lynch (centre) & Jim McBride (right) are Luton Legends.
Playing against them is fine, too. In the early stages of Tourneys, it's bullet-dodging time, & you need to sit a bit quiet until all the maniacs have busted themselves. Oddly, it's extremely tough to play against maniacs, & so much "easier" to play against "proper" players, good players, as you sort of know where you are. It's like speedway riders I suppose, you need to "trust" those around you to do certain things at certain times. The unpredictability of maniacs, of course, is their asset, & they have their fans too, but personally, I want to play against the Simon's, Dicks & Jim's of this world. And you can criticise their A-B-C poker (if that's what we think they play....) all you like, but they are amongst the very very few who make a profit consistently, & in the long-term.
Oh, & poker is a young man's game? I don't think so - the average age of these three must be north of 60. I bet they make more money at poker (& add Chompy, Celtic, Edna, Tighty, Sicilian etc) than all the young guns combined.
I tip my hat to them.

Good grief, well done Nick & Pete, too!

No. And by dint of this ommision, nor could any of her progeny be, Ever.

This is "Ian", one of Luton's better Dealers, always happy, & claims to be the best 19 year old Dealer in England. We have Appu & his Brother too, both super guys, & Billy The Whiizz.
Poor Billy, "Supervising" at the time, made a right howler last week. He wanted to balance the Table, & asked for the BB to sit up & move to another Table, but the Dealer never heard, & dealt him in. The guy finds Aces, but Billy states "MISDEAL, you should not have been dealt a hand". Guy just mucks his hand (we all do), gets up, never moans or groans, these things happen. 30 seconds later he's back - the "Table Balance" requirement was incorrect, there was no seat at the other table, so he could have kept the Aces! Guy still never said a peep, just accepted it. As the Law says, the consequences of an action are not connected to the original misdemeanour.
The "mood" at Luton these last few months has improved enormously, the female half of Hinge & Bracket excepted, & it's a real fun place to play these days, especially when Dick, Simon, Jim, Jeff Buff, Expressman, Alex, Pelham, Snat, Courteney, Ding Tighty, Ambro, Compo & Co (there are so many decent types there) are in the room. Long may it last.

The Final Table of APAT Dublin - Dublin - contained players from......
Newport, Wales
Worksop, Notts
Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Dublin, ROI
Portsmouth, Hampshire
London
Birmingham
Worksop, Notts. (Yup, two from Worksop).
Belfast, NI
For a £75 Freezeout.
We had a whole bunch of blondes there too (apologies for those omitted), but it included Brendan, AndrewT, Kinboshi, jizzem, bigalhx, Rudders, Bainn & Harmony, & plenty more besides.
Long live APAT. It was argued when we first went public that folks would not be interested in £75 Freezeouts all over the place. But the facts have it, & each Event still sells out PDQ.

Memo to self. New 'bins needed - urgent. And a new Memory.
I typed "Ian", but it's pronounced Antony. "Iantony".
