Did you go inside Concorde Tikay?
I thought it was surprisingly cramped for its "luxury" tag ,but what a beautiful piece of design and engineering

Yes, yes & yes.

I suppose flying 747's so many times, with 2 aisles & 11 or 12  seats "wide", it did seem incredibly small, quite claustrophobic actually.

But yes, what Engineering!

So, that was Duxford, & I'm so glad I went. I'd like to go again, take Tom with me, because they had hangers where they were repairing & restoring WW11 aircraft, & I'm sure he'd love it.

I often think that it'd be lovely if a bunch of like-minded blondes went for "blonde visits" to places like this. Bashes are fine & dandy, but there are loads of places we could go, be it nature, wildlife, marine, engineering, or whatever. Ignore me, I'm in a funny mood.

Now, an oddity. Do you remember that picture of a flying cow (camaflouged, too, that was the irony that whooshed everyone) I Posted a few weeks back? It intrigued me as to "what", & "why", & this afternoon, I saw another oddity which I just cannot fathom.

After Duxford, I travelled home, & popped into Tesco's Ilkeston for Angell's Cat milk.

Opposite the Car-Park, a small brick-built building was partly demolished.

On it's roof, supported on a special gantry, was.....an aeroplane engine.

WTF?

Been to Duxford many times .. great day out.

How about a day up in the smoke to visit the Imperial War museum.

Trouble is tikay, you cant be pinned down to a specific day unless we book six months in advance.

Count me in!

Specific day? My Diary is fairly predictable for a 6 or 8 week period, but yes, it does move about a bit. It's me that's the problem, I failed to even organise myself to go to Vegas, pah!

Is Duxford - which goes by the same name - part of the IWM?

It was Ilkeston. Somebody had probably nicked the rest of it!

Tikay, when you find a spare hour, get on iplayer >>>Categories>>> Factual >>>Page 6, "Stephen Fry in America" ... its basically just him visiting all the states and visiting different obscure little places, First episode features some type of steam train which runs on a chain rail ... great programme. this is episode 1, not sure how long it will be available for.

+1 on the programme, but, it was a cog drive, not chain. I'm ashamed of myself, but I just can't help it. Amazing thing was, this massive undertaking of building a rail line up a mountain 100 or so years ago (may even have been further back, can't remember) was done for the sole purpose of tourism. Only in America.

I don't know what you think of Stephen Fry, TK, but he does a very good travelogue. Very much off-the-beaten-track stuff. Wait til you see the "summer cabin" he visits. Indescribable. Once again, only in America.

(Also refers to Kev's Posts on this topic).

Yes, I am a huge Stephen Fry fan - he is a superb writer, too, his books are side-spittingly funny.

It's a huge luxury to be able to watch, listen to, or read, the work of intelligent & articulate people, especially when they surprise you by, as it were, wearing  different hats to the ones we are used to. I'm thinking Fry, Billy Connolly, & Robbie Coltrane, who have all filmed &/or written sort of themed travelogues.

Or listen to, say, Jen Mason talking non-poker, her clever use of language is, well, beyond words.

Robert Robinson was another.

Enoch Powell, despite his obscenely racist views, was the most wonderful orator, as was Tony Benn, for all his eccentricity.

In sport, I can think of one or two who impress while wearing different hats - Alec Stock, David Pleat, Eamonn Dunphy, & the genius that is Arsene Wenger.

Did you ever watch "The Sky at Night", by Patrick Moore? The old buffer must be 90, & I have no interest in astronomy, but I could listen to him for ever.

In horse-racing, I used to love listening to John - "Lord" Oaksey.

Give me any expert, on any subject, & I'm captivated.

I'll try & figure out this i-player thing, but it may have to wait until I next see Chili, she sorts these complicated things out for me.

I'm not sure I have a web browser. What does it look like? Where would it be?

I've highlighted the words in your statement that are likely to have confused Tikay. Can you see how this might not be as simple to explain as you'd think.

I adored Duxford tikay, we spoke about it a while ago if you remember.

My best bit was the WW2 American collection in the sloping roof hall.

Cracking day out.

When we were on the train the other day I couldn't help but notice you peer out and crane your neck as we passed the RAF Museum Hendon. Another good place to visit given a spare half a day..especially for the Lancaster bomber.
