Erm...Tikay...pretty sure Llyr (LOJ) is Welsh through and through.
Not proper Welsh - he was born in Wallasey, in Chesire. Which is in England.

Sam Walton?
Arnold Lever?
Thomas Watson?
Andrew Carnegie?
all candidates to my mind
of tikay's list I'd take exception to Leahy and O'Leary on grounds of insufficient longevity and Harvey Jones..ICI strategically was a mess under him, later reinvented himself as a corporate consultant. JHJ was a master self promoter, not a great businessman
Now we have a debate!
I agree, longevity helps us to judge greatness, but Terry has worked wonders, as has Michael, & I'm afraid both must stay in.
Sam Walton. No argument. Legend.
Carnegie - VERY successful, he of US Steel, but I don't know much about him, so I have to omit.
Lever? No. Not sure why.
Thomas Watson - I'd not heard of him (oops!) until you listed him. A quick google tells the tale, IBM & all that. I don't know anything about his acumen, so he has to stay out for now.
Harvey-Jones. On reflection, yes, let's remove him.
Gonna be a struggle to keep this to 10.

Moving on, I'm in Manchester on Sunday, with In-Poker, & I so want Jeff Kimber to Final. He was apparently described as "plump" in Vegas last year. That's shocking.

Ah. I didn't know that. Thought he was Welsh through and through.
I know where Wallasey is though
I was born in Chester and my sister lives there. Nice place.
Not.

Lever invented the brand..without him no Coca Cola, Nike and all the rest
Watson...in the 60s he took IBM into mainframes..at a cost of $5bn in capex upfront ..in the 1960s!!! get it wrong, company founded by his dad goes kaput...instead it paid off hugely. His successors completely missed the PC boom 2 decades later
Leahy and O'Leary are clearly fantastic. I've met Leahy, hugely impressive and done a grand job. Not unhelped by the incompetence of the Sainsbury family of course. I wouldn't have them in my all time top ten, just yet

I was sent a WSOP Media briefing today - 45 pages! Fascinating stuff, especially for geeks.
We have a Media Teleconference on Tuesday with the Harrah's Suits, including Jeffrey Pollack & Jack Effel, as the countdown to Vegas continues. It starts a month on Sunday!
So many folks will travel to Vegas with hopes high, & come home with their arses hanging out of their trousers. Chase the dream, eh?
I've loved every moment of my Vegas jaunts, & when I see old photos of my times there, it really whets my appetite. Meanwhile, places to go, people to see, I'm pleasantly busy right now.
Tonight I stay over at Heathrow, & tomorrow I have the dreadful trek north to Manchester. Sky have booked me a Hotel almost on the end of the runway at Manchester Airport, happy days, so I'll amuse myself there tomorrow afternoon & evening. The rest of the Crew are staying in town, but I really don't like Manchester much at all, so I'm happy to be outside.
Orpey is doing In-Poker with me this week, as Compo is not available. She'll go down well in Manchester, I fancy.

Bugger.
Tell you what, let's make this Top Ten a Top Twenty. Yes, that's the solution.
I'm not convinced any of those you mention deserve inclusion - they happened to be in the right industry, at the right time. Luce - the publisher? Wow, that shocks me.

The reference to Sainsbury is interesting. I have worked with Sainsburys since the Supermarket boom began, & I originally admired them enormously, but I eventually came to realise that their incompetence was simply staggering, as was the family feuding. So yes, they let Tesco in. But fair play, Terry still had to do the job. And he did. They take a billion quid a week, & earned 3 billion quid profit last year. Hard to knock that. How did you come to meet Terry?

Thats me done for the day. The Show went well tonight - Rich Orford has a great ability to get so close the the line, without quite crossing it, so it's pretty exciting working with him, almost as his straight man.
Earlier, we recorded some Promos to promote Rersponsible Gambling, Banlkroll Management, Don't Tilt, Self-Exclude, that sorta thing.
I really enjoy this TV malarky.
Spent all day yesterday (Thursday) at a meeting in Osterley. I quite miss being involved in business, though my various roles at Sky help feed the habit. 3 successive 9am starts were hard to do though, odd when I think I used to start at 4am or 5am 6 days a week - Sundays I laid in, & never started until 9am!
The meeting yesterday was odd - full of senior suits & suitesses, & not one with a tie or suit. My dad would have had a seizure if I'd gone to work without a suit & tie. Times change.
I do hope my health holds up a little longer, life is good.
