Picking up in the celebrity theme on the WSOP thread.....

Player at DTD last weekend on seeing and meeting Tikay. "Ohmigod I can't believe I've actually met you, you're really here. I've met Tikay". This was not a level - he was for real.....

Who knew? We have a real bonafide celebrity in the house!

I am waiting for the cross over programme, Tikay presenting soem sort of wander about type programme where he goes and speaks to people about trains/engines/wildlife. It is on the cards!

Some interesting perspectives here on poker as dangerous.

Gotta say I enjoyed Vegas all the more for reducing my play to once a week in the run up. Even though I enjoyed Vegas I look back and wish I'd taken someone with me as a week was too long to just play poker pretty much non stop.

I think I'm going to stick with just once a week from now as it fulfils the desire to get out and play but without taking over.

What it must feel like to be a 'pro' on a bad trot, still needing to get up and play, is just too dire to contemplate.

On a separate note, one of the people I bumped into and had a brief chat with in Vegas was Carlo Citrone - they say you only get one chance to make a first impression - boy does he do it well - what an engaging fellow.

Some interesting perspectives here on poker as dangerous.

anything has the potential to be dangerous if taken to excess.  poker probably more so than other things due to the fact that there will be a lot of people with compulsive personalities and/or other underlying disorders attracted to it in the first place.

I'm not fussed if I never play another EPT, but if they went to St Petersburg, I reserve the right to change my mind. They have the world's finest Art Gallery there, The Hermitage (within the Winter Palace)  - proper art, paintings & things - not that Banksy bollox.

I'm going to have a think about it and try and come up with my own top 3.

I know 2 off the top of my head - I'll have to think about what's in third place.

I don't like ANY art.

The Hermitage has whole rooms dedicated to individuals like Picasso, Rembrandt, Constable, la de da, over 100 paintings in each room, & it took me all of 15 minutes to breeze through the lot, & not a wow in sight. I then spent 9 hours, in sub-zero temperatures, gawping in awe from the exterior at the wonder & scale of the Winter Palace, The Defence Building (forget the name) & that grand, paved square between the two, set off by a magnificent statue mounted atop a 700 tonne granite obelisk.The obelisk is free-standing, by the way - not anchored down in any way.

I went to Paris on one occasion, & spurred on only by a sexual forfeit with my then long-time partner, agreed to waste half a day going to The Louvre to see the Mona Lisa. It was worth it, but not for the picture, which is absurdly over-rated, though I admit ignorance in all matters Art.

But Rembrandt & his mates were proper art, A-Level stuff, even if I don't appreciate it. Banksy is just a cartoonist, but using a different medium to traditional cartoons.

of course tikay likes art - just not in its conventional form.  look at the joy he gets out of buildings with stunning architecture - an artform in itself surely?

Much as he will poo-poo the notion it has to be accepted that TK meets most of the criteria for celebrity (minor division).

He appears on our TVs on a daily basis.
He is the marketing face for a natiional brand.
Ladies of a certain age flock after him.
He is asked for his opinions on all sorts of subjects.
He has been offered as a prize in competitions.

After-dinner speaking,supermarket opening and celebrity masterchef await.

Fortunately for us he is also a man of substance and dignity and (hopefully) retains his sense of humour.
