Dont think it makes much difference to give a free card, unless the player is very agg and likely to bluff.  Ok he could pick up a set on the turn, but he could also pick up a draw and if you bet less than the pot you might give him odds to call.

well he's limp called a raise so he's never gonna be that strong. probably abit of a station so if i'm betting here i'm making it small but normally check and hope something interests him on the turn.

With a Rainbow set, I'd slowplay this even OOP. If he bets he probably has the A or a K with a decent kicker and you can get some chips from him. If he checks he may have a small pair or nothing therefore you want him to catch up a little. If you bet out he will probably only give you action with an A or QJ, otherwise he will fold. If he is a station, which the limp-call may suggest, you might get a call from a weak A or K. Can you explain why you disagree with the check?

outdrawn and i just think checking looks really fishy. i really cant see anyone bluffing on the turn. maybe if i checked to the river i might get a bet out of him but im asking for trouble.

I don't like the slow play at all. You need something to give credit for your bluffs and c-bets. (Unless you're playing a bad player).

I suppose it depends how good your opponent is and since you just moved tables you wouldn't know how he's been playing. Like Doyle and other pros say in their books they lead out even when they flop a concealed set in order to try and win a big pot however this is against top professionals. In a lowish buy-in tournament against a possibly poor player (which a limp-call might suggest) and with a rainbow flop I would give him a chance to bet or take a free turn card to catch up. The only hand to be worried about is AA which he most likely won't have or QJ. If he hits the ten then that's just bad luck, you can't fear the possibility of being outdrawn all the time with such a strong hand.

By hitting a set like this you want to win a big pot and I think the way to do it in this scenario is to slowplay the flop 80% of the time. In a different game against a different player leading out may be best.

standard c-bet mate, like you did, if he has nothing he wont stack off in a $1k buyin, your best hope is that he makes a move on you on the flop, then you call ;-)

I really don't like slowplaying...I lead out about 90% of the time and hope he comes over the top..that's why you get the chips in the middle in the first place and the only way to do that is to lead out. It's the best way to get paid off when you hit a set.
