Compo, is that all the people you have given losing tips to ??

Just today. Grin

Actually a picture of Yad vashem. In memory of those killed in the holocaust. Without doubt the most moving place I have ever been. Both sets of my grandparents were refugees from eastern europe and had to leave behind several members of their respective families,  and you know how large families were in those days. I  also have a number of relatives who survived  both the Pogrom and the Holocaust. Try talking to someone with a number tattooed on their arm about the war. I first visited Yad vashem as a cocky know-it all teenager until my maternal grandmother pointed out people who had lived in her village in Poland. It dawned on me then how fragile life can be given certain circumstances. People who say we should forget the Holocaust and move on should be made to stand at yad vashem and tell the people there.

Apologies for soap box mode.

I'm sure you did, Tom. As you are aware it was'nt just the jews who were persecuted. Incidentally would you know if there is/are similar memorials for Gypsys? ( I hope I'm not being insulting)

There is nothing (That I know of) that is specific to the fate of the Gypsies in what for us came to be known as "The forgoten Holocaust" However, I have attended several Holocaust Memorial days and the Gypsies are always remembered there.

I went to the Holocaust exhibition at the Imperial War Museum a few years ago, and they had a small section dedicated to the Roma who died in Auschwitz camp one.

There aren't yet any memorials build especially for the Roma and Sintis but the Germans are building something next to the Reichtagg..or atleast have been talking about doing that for ages..for some reason the political will didn't seem to be there at first and then for a long time the German Government and the Roma council (if I say that correctly, I can't think of the name of the organisation at the moment) in Germany were arguing over the wording of the plaques.

There is a design made up for it but I don't know how far along it is.

I do know that in the Czech republic there was a concentration camp mainly for Roma and where they have some sort of memorial (but don't know whether that one is specifically for the Roma.
